How do we report dealers for marked up MSRP?
Hey guys. Like you all, I'm sick of the "Market Adjustments" - How do we report the dealers to someone that matters?
Any contact information out there?
The local dealer has a $45,000 market adjustment!!!!
I talked to them at length and they said, "If you bought the car at MSRP, you could make $$ on it tomorrow"
Heaven forbid the common folk be able to make money! No, they see that we cannot.
I just want a C8 to KEEP and not sell!
So frustrated!

Frankly what should a dealer do with a car ordered by a customer (which GM was giving build preference over ordered for their own inventory) and a customer does not want the car when it arrives for whatever reason? Should they offer it for sale to the 1st customer who walks in the door at MSRP???
Should they just let a "flipper" buy it and sell at $20,000 over having no overhead, etc?
A number of your fellow forum members had posted they have and are buying a number of C8's and flipping. Should be more concerned about them than a dealer, IMO!

GM has gone a step further! They keep track of when new cars sell. They have said, in writing, IF a dealer has cars in inventory that are NOT assigned to customers, they interpret that as the price being charged as well over MSRP and will reduce or stop that dealer's C8 allocation! Does not apply to used cars.

There where approx 10,000 C7s left unsold on dealer's lots around the country 4-5 years ago to the point Chevy dealers had to discount them 12%>%23 off MSRP to sell them. So if/when C8s ever get to that point is GM going to restrict dealers sell C8s at MSRP and not discount them? I don't think so.
I never heard C7 buyers whining about dealers offering such huge discounts off MSRP back then.
No dealer is making anyone pay over MSRP for a C8. If you don't have the patience to wait for purchase of a C8 at MSRP then it's what the market will bare.
Some of you act like C8s are the only vehicles being sold/offered over MSRP, when in fact it's most vehicles that have any degree of demand/popularity,
Get over it and either wait for your C8 at MSRP or pay what it costs for not waiting.

SIDEBAR
I also know GM does give a crap! Good example is when I bought my early 2014 C7. Placed an order with Hedrick in Cary NC since Kerbeck (where I had purchased my C6, the subsequently my 2017 Grand Sport and C8) was NOT taking hold-a-spot orders right after the launch in February 2013. Hendrick in Cary NC were the only ones I found that would put in writing that my price would be MSRP when neither they nor I knew what the price would be. Didn't come out until May as I recall and had just days to confirm my order and options. When car arrived in September, I had my wife drive me to their showroom, 1st time I had been there (~125 miles from home.) My car was in the Showroom and the only C7. There was a salesman discussing with a potential customer and when the fellow asked to sit inside the salesman said "It's a customer car and we don't have the keys!" After I paid for the car, they slide what looked like a window sideways, drove it out and had NO C7 to show anyone!
Recall taking with the sales manager who was upset at GM as he said he cannot get one for their inventory and it would significantly help sales. GM was ONLY filling orders for customers at that time. That didn't last long as production capacity was not way order demand at the time.
IMO foolish to think GM doesn't care! They have a concern about their image for future purchases. BUT have been working since 1957, still have a part time Internet Business! Don't stay in business long not giving a crap about customers!

Doesn't have to be frustrating. There is no shortage of dealers selling C8s at MSRP, and there is a list of them on this forum if you care to search.
When I was considering a C8 I drove a couple miles to my local dealership and plunked my name on a waiting list at MSRP. No deposit. No signing anything. About 9 months later I received a call that I was next in line and deposited $1K to send my build order to the factory. A month or so later it was in my garage.
Easy peasy.

Regarding the part I bolded: If it's OK for "the common folk" to profit on a car, why is it different for a dealer? This is the free enterprise system that we all claim to love so much. But apparently only when it works in our favor, not someone else's.

If I may ad, that if a dealer or private seller asks for an outrageous mark-up price, that price will either be accepted or ignored.
I fail to see why such a big deal is made by some members on these pages about high asking prices.

As long as the dealer is up front about the markup, GM isn't going to do anything. The only time they might intervene is if the dealer sold at car with the promise of MSRP and then jacked up the price before delivery.

we all think markups are wrong, unfortunately there are people out there willing to pay extra to speed things up. It is what it is. Demand outpacing supply 🤷♂️

You know guys, you do not need to preach to me.
If most of you guys support dealer markups no problem. Have at it.
For those of us that have lived through many generations and experienced this time and time again, its frustration.
I think GM should offer vehicles sold via internet/website like Tesla.

The only ones you can report and have anything done about are the ones who promise MSRP on your retail sold order and then set a surprise markup at delivery. A few people here have had limited success emailing Mary Barra and have gotten an allocation on the next cycle at a different dealer. Typically the regional manager gets involved and shuffles you around. That case aside, GM didn’t say anything in their notice about used / retail stock going for over MSRP. Also take the online car search via Chevy website with a grain of salt. A lot of dealers will post it with a markup just to keep people from calling about a retail sold older. My car was sold at MSRP but listed at +20k.
