Default Mobil 1 Oil Filter M1-114A

Inspired by the recent deal from Autozone Big Dave Autozone and by some conversations with @Kracka , I went down an internet rabbit hole investigating the oil filter internal bypass valve pressure rating. Here is what I've found:

1. Apparently Mobil 1 oil filters are no longer made by Champion Labs and now by Mann + Hummel
2. Some disparity in the pressure ratings of the M1-113A stated as 12 to 15 PSI, as opposed to many quotes over the years as to 22PSI
3. Much to my surprise is a new filter M1-114A which is an updated version of the 113A with 25PSI bypass pressure bypass valve.
4. The Mobil 1 website does not list the M1-114A. Neither does Amazon, Autozone or any other supplier but AdvancedAuto M1-114A link

edit: OEM ACDelco PF64 rated at 22PSI

I use the $6 ACDelco filter that GM recommends. If it was as bad as people on this Forum seem to think, we would see numerous engine failures. But we don't... how do you like that?

Excellent find, sir! This is actually huge news for the C7 & C8 communities and clears up nearly a decade's worth of confusion!

So, if this is confirmed, it means that the M113A made by Mann + Hummel does not have the correct bypass pressure for the C8 even though is is listed as the correct filter for the C8.
Am I reading this correctly?
Did the Champion Labs M113A have the correct bypass pressure for the C7 and C8s?

@RandelB received confirmation from M+H that their version of the 113A has a bypass of 12-15psi.
In 2017 I personally received confirmation from Champion Labs that their version of the 113A had a bypass of 22psi.

Looks like I'll be exchanging my latest 113A for a 114A! In the meantime, I'll just use the Fram XG12060 that I have as well.

I also have an email from Champion Labs confirming that the M113A meets the higher bypass requirement but have always been a little suspicious since the M113A is also listed to be used on lower bypass pressure engines. It is possible that it meets both requirements depending on how the specs are written.
I still have a couple of the Champion M113A filters but I'm hesitant to use them now.
I'll now be returning the two M+H M113A filters I got.

Nobody thinks the PF64 is a bad filter, in fact it is probably the best filter you can buy in that $3-5 range. It beats everything else in the price range with efficiency ratings around 97-98% @ 25-30 micron (while equally priced competitors are more like 95% @ 20-30 micron, depending on brand). Like anything else though, you can get better if you're willing to pay for it; exact same reason some guys upgrade to aftermarket intakes, headers, etc. For most consumers factory stock is "good enough" but the niche enthusiast is always looking for that slight edge.

My first filter change @ 2k miles was for another PF64 and I currently have a PF64 on the car right now from the included service @ 7k miles, but I'll be using the XG12060 next when I DIY as its rated 99% @ 20 micron (for comparison, the M1 is 99% @ 30 micron).

If you're not interested in premium aftermarket replacement oil filters, no need to even click on the thread considering it was titled accordingly

AutoZone and O’Reilly now get $10 for a PF64. Amazon is currently showing $7.

Jeez... That's just silly then. $7 at Walmart too. $3.64 from RockAuto with an additional $1.50 mail in rebate, but you have to pay shipping. At anything north of $5 might as well just spend the extra few bucks for the XG12060 at $9. Deal of the day actually, just found the TG12060 for only $6 at Walmart! Same base filter as the XG, but without the synthetic topper.

Last time I bought a PF64 filter it was $6.64 at Walmart. Not a bad price for a decent filter.

What about the UPF64R? This is the upgrade over the PF64. Anyone know the specs?

Mann + Hummel now owns WIX filters as well.

Not a direct replacement: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...vs-upf64r.html

As stated, the UPF64R has a by-pass pressure setting of 35 psi, the PF64 has a by-pass pressure setting of 22 psi.

Although the UPF64R is sometimes used on the LT1/LT4 engines, it is not designed for the those engines. I believe andreas g is correct, it is designed for GM hybrids.

What DSO said... The 64R is not an upgrade nor is it interchangeable. Common misconception.

What's your source on the M1 EP filters no longer being made by Champion Labs? Also, the latest M-113A that I just received from AZ says Made in the USA, does M-H make oil filters in the USA?

If you call Mobil1 filter technical support it will be answered by M+H support.

I have both the Champ Labs and M+H M113A filters and they are different.
