Default My Transaxle Whines

‘22 HTC with Z51 and 1200 miles. I hear this annoying whine in the 65-70 mph range. Only hear it when the top and all windows are up. It sounds like the differential gears to me, - does it regardless of gear selection. Have others had the same issue, and is there a fix short of replacing the transaxle?

Best action is take it to the dealer for diagnosis and repair - that’s what the warranty is for.

And before all the dealer bashing comments, there are good ones out there that can take care of your car.

I have a slight whine. You can hear it most during a long trip in the after the car is fully warmed up during slight deceleration. Like you said around 65-70 MPH but it can be slower. If I try to match the throttle with a neutral load on the powertrain (which results in slight deceleration on level ground) it is the most apparent. Or going down a very slight incline with the cruise control set.
I had the service writer note it during the annual service and the response was "not observed". As noted in the posted link one person had their transaxle replaced and still had a whine.

It could be wheel bearings or CV joints.

Possible .... but doubt it. I know a differential whine when I hear it.

I can slightly hear it when top is down on my 2021 HTC and going 5-10mph. You really have to have the radio off and then pull the paddles to be in Nutral and then it just barly audable.

I wouldn’t care if if were at a very slow speed. But I spend a lot of time in the 65-70 range and it gets annoying. I’d really like to hear from folks that can testify to ‘no whine’ at highway speeds so I can refute the ‘they all do it’ argument.

My 2021 coupe has the same whine between 50 and 60 mph , took it in for first service and the service manager acknowledged the noise and said if it gets worse to address it then …. Car has 5600 miles and did it since new .

My 2021 (July 7th build) also has the whine between 50 and 60 but it is not noticeable on all road surfaces. Car has 6K miles on it. I noticed this from day one. Haven't been to the dealer yet will mention it at my first oil change.

Find a local dealer that has a capable Corvette specialist on their staff. All dealers that sell a fair amount of Corvettes are required to have at least 1 knowledgeable Corvette specialist onboard. Ask your local Corvette club or post a "In search of a local Corvette specialist" question in the Regional Forum section for your area.

Mg dealer has measured the noise level and sent the sound file to GM. They say it’s within spec and acceptable. It’s not acceptable to me. If it was noisy in the 50-60 mph range, I may not care. Don’t drive in that speed range much. But mine is in 65-70 range at load.

The ring gear is not fully meshing with the pinion. It can be shimmed to produce an even contact patch but this will require major disassembly. Take it to the dealer, this is a warranty issue.

Best wishes.
