Default Navigation system

I have yet to find a way to navigate anywhere using the stock nav system without entering an address.
There are plenty of times I want to go somewhere that doesn't even have an address.
Most navs I've used will allow you to zoom in on an area, touch a point and then will ask if you want to go there.
Some will let you do it while in motion, some won't.
Is there any way this nav system will allow navigation without entering an address?

Sorry, can't help you as I'm still waiting for a damm C8!! But what a rip off, making Navi part of the 2LT package!!! It's probably the least 'wanted' option on any car these days with all the Navi apps on Smart Phones which are equally as good as what any Car manufacturer can offer and ver cheap if not Free, and it's yours forever even when you upgrade your phone. Total Cash grab by GM!!

This was a frustration of mine as well.... It can't find a city if you ask it to go to Boise Idaho for example, it has not a clue. Then someone on the forum suggested to ask it to go to 1st ave, Boise Idaho. ..

Problem solved.... well, not solved but worked around. It does do pretty well with points of interest, but if you want to just pick a point on the map, .. outa luck. (I think)

Can you switch the icon from the default navigation to Google Maps or Waze?

I dont know, but with Car Play , you can use Waze on your phone - it will appear on your car display.

It’s because GPS is needed for PDR which is part of 2LT. Also GPS is needed for front lift

One possible workaround may be to use Alexa. Alexa is MUCH better at understand voice searches and passes the results on to the OEM system for the actual navigation. The problem with this is you either need to have the wi-fi data plan for your car or you need to use your phone's hotspot.

I have many years experience as an engineer working commercial and military GPS. I spent several hours working with the GPS nav SD card, trying to find a way to fool it into finding a lat/long location.
I got no where. So for trips requiring off grid places, I stick my $100 Garmin to the window. I quickly can load it up with everything I need from Basecamp.

I hope someone smarter than me can find a way to make the 3K$ built in nav more useful.

Just don’t use the built-in NAV and use Waze via Apple CarPlay (or Android Auto). Problem solved.

It isn't always that simple. My 2020 doesn't support Android Auto via Wi-Fi so I need to use the USB port in the center console. My phone overheats in the center console if it is multitasking so I need to place it in the cupholder. And the phone battery slowly drains when it is doing anything more than the basic tasks through Android Auto. And sometimes Android Auto quits and if I try to connect again it tells me to plug in a phone with Android Auto. So, while I'm driving down the road, I need to unplug the phone and plug it back in. And that doesn't always work until I reboot the phone.

I thought the OP was looking for the functionality that would allow him to touch a point on the map and then have it become the destination. Otherwise, the built in Nav does support points of interest, doesn't it? That is, I can enter the name of a place, and it will attempt to find that place - it may not be good at it. When that happens to me, I use one of the Apps on the phone which are better at finding places, then I get the address from the phone and enter it into the on-board Nav. Perhaps that same approach could be used to get the address by touching a point on phone app map to get an address. Or, I just use Apple Car Play with Waze.

I don't have any issues with my nav systems in my GM products. I used to use paper maps though.........

I've never had an issue with the NAV, I can put in general cities and it generally just drops a pin in the middle.

Thanks for the replys.
You have convinced me that the stock nav system is truly a POS.
My solution was to mount a Zumo XT on the dash.
It has full functionality while in motion.
Looks horrible but does the job.

I think the Nav System in the Corvette works quite nicely. YMMV

Well, I am glad that many of the Forum members can use their cell phones with the various nav apps. I live in a rural area and often drive in areas where cell service is spotty or non existent. I find the car nav on the C8 as well as on my Mercedes E450 and my wife's Subaru Outback to be extremely useful. I do admit to finding the destination entry a bit cumbersome. However, in the C8 the voice command seems to work very well for me.

My Nav system only seems to recognize the Klingon language. It's not even ESL.

Default Yes, the stock nav system does that

My 2021 nav system does exactly what you described. I touch a point on the map - I have to hold my finger there for maybe a second - then it will display where that is. Depending on where it is, it can be an address on a highway, an intersection, or whatever. Then after that name appears, if I touch that name, it will give me the option to go there. I select the option, and it gets entered as a destination.
