Seriously…Are Sellers Getting $20k+ Over MSRP for Used C8s?
I see used C8’s for sale for $25k over whether it’s a 1LT, 2 or 3, coupe or HTC, color no matter etc. I wonder how many actually sell or are all of these sellers just fishing? I have a 2020 that Im selling to get a ‘22 that is on order. If I trade it in, I save $6200 in sales tax but that’s about it.
Carmax offered me $9,000 over MSRP which I didn’t think was worth saving 3k. I might as well trade it in.
My car is a 2020 HTC Z51 LT2 FE3 3000 miles Blue/Black
81k MSRP

They seem to be. Try buying a used “ Porsche Certified “ 718 Cayman or Boxster GTS 4.0 right now. 15 to 25 k over MSRP.
It’s not just the C8 going for high markups.

That Carmax offer does seem a little lower than what people had been getting offered a few months ago. Don’t know if yours is an anomaly orange market is shifting a little.

Nope, mine isn't for sale at 20 over 40 over. It's mine that's it.

OP just to get another trade in number, might be worth giving Corvette World in Dallas a call, I believe they will pick up the car. If you were trading in the car at he Chevy dealer, personally I would take it CarMax as it is worth $3K more, the Chevy dealer last minute could come back with a lower offer.

There is a dealer here in the Daytona Beach area who has about 12 C8's in his showroom. a couple are new, most have just a few miles on them. Even has 2 of those special livery C8R cars. It appears that the average price of the cars is about 25K over with the C8R cars priced at $137K and $165K. The latter is the dealership owner who, they tell me, does bot really want to sell it. There fore he priced it where it is.

Maybe really early into the game, but around now, unless you live in a no vehicle sales tax state or are a yoshi it’s just not worth to try and flip. You’d have to be beyond financially incompetent to try and leverage as much money as it is for the minuscule post tax profit compared to any other asset class. Especially with the looming release of the ZO6, I imagine at least 50% or so of people will be trading up for theirs further increasing supply of used stingrays.

You'll get your best price selling it yourself. CarMax will probably add another $10K over what they give you.
Why is $3K not worth it compared to trading it in?

To answer a few questions: Call me a flipper but I thought I’d get a 2 model year newer car with 0 miles and the new preferred color (grey) and possibly a few guineas to jingle in my pocket. Nothing wrong with my car. I typically trade every 2 years. Many people have perfect cars that I bought new. Yes, I save them for the next owner. That started the process and I have a ‘22 coming in soon.
what I’ve found is that dealers don’t want to let anyone make money but them. I don’t blame them.
I figure saving $3000 to sell it to somebody vs trading it is would be a PIA. Maybe not. I might try it but the dealer will be upset in some way. Should I care?..

Not sure why you should care about the dealer. The service department is typically a separate cost center, and they'll take your money regardless of what the sales department does. In your shoes, I'd tell the dealer you have an offer from a different dealer for $3K more, but you'll be happy to trade the car in if they match that. Bet they'll at least come closer.

My nurse went yesterday, cash in hand, to buy a Kia Telluride. It was $47K. The dealer would not budge under $57K with initial market adjustment price being $80K. She was shocked. Came home with nothing.

From what I have seen, prices for used C8s are still well above MSRP. How long that will last, who knows.

As others said Carmax will likely add 10-15k to the price. Have you tried vroom or Carvana? I’ve sold a few cars to Carvana and it was the easiest selling experience I ever had and usually the price can vary a lot between different companies and even week to week.

Carvana would be my next fishing trip for a price. If you are patient and watch their inventory levels, you can get an excellent number. Even the most basic 1lt on there is 92k+.

I was offered 30k over sticker for my car by a local dealership and it hasn't even arrived yet. Told him not happening as of yet as I've waited too long for the car, I want to enjoy it. He then said "okay drive it for a while as long as I have under 5k on the car the offer stands"
