2021 Sitting for 3 weeks
There is a silver and black 2021 Z51 sitting on a lot near me been there 3 weeks going on 4. The sticker says $88.570 listed, now for $109,000 it was $119,000, Isn't there a GM bulletin about penalties for dealers keeping cars with markups staying on lots too long? This is a small town not many Corvettes around town. I hope it'll stay a long time.

I think the market has run out of buyers who are willing to pay way over sticker just to get a car. Dealer near me received 3 allocations 2 weeks ago and called the dozen people on his list trying to find 3 chumps who would pay $5k over sticker. Every once of them said no thanks.

Agronomy what I understand dealerships cannot order stock cars to markup on their lots but GM is not doing anything if a customer declines the car once it comes in (either change their minds or dealership adds crazy markup that they don’t want to pay) at that point the dealership can put it on their lot for whatever they want

There's no bulletin, but there is a penalty of sorts. GM's switch to Available Days Supply (ADS) allocation scheme gives dealers who turn over cars rapidly more allocations than those who have cars sitting on the lot for long periods of time. But for a small dealer that will only get a few allocations anyway, selling 3 cars (as an example) cars at $20K over is going to make them more money than selling 6 cars at MSRP. There really isn't anything GM can do to control what a dealer asks for a car.

I like the C8, but not enough to pay the $21K markup in the OP.

There's a dealership near me that has three that I know have been sitting for a month. They were 30k over, a couple of weeks ago 25k and when I checked with them one last time before heading out of town they said they would go 20k... I suspect the market is correcting a bit and should correct even more when GM starts to shift their vehicles to other dealerships.

No doubt about it, they would be scooped up at $5k ADM to place an order today. I think any softening in the ADM market right now is just due to the fact that cars ordered today are going to be either a winter delivery, or just before. Lots of the country will have people like me who see no point in that, and am willing to wait another 3-4 months for an order to go in and get a spring delivery. I can tell you now, if none of my deposits have me ordering a car by March, I'll be saying screw it, and would be more than willing to go $5k ADM to place an order at that point.

The problem is still there. There are people that will spend extra money than waiting for a year or having to wait to get a 2023. As far as a car in a car lot. I have seen the same car on car lots for months. If there’s another hiccup like in 2020 and 2021 it will stay the same.
