The Michelin tires have edge protection molded into the rubber that looks about as good as that. I think it would protect the wheel pretty well from a gentle brush.

I actually did not know this. I guess you learn something new every day...
are they really just aesthetic? they claim to prevent curb rash which no matter how careful i am, i inevitably manage to curb a wheel and I just ordered black HREs I'd really like to protect from my stupidity.
Anyone installed Alloy Gators, Rim Blades or another rim edge protection?

The German wheel manufacturer BBS who supplies wheels for the Corvette C8R GTLM race program in IMSA has also designed some sweet rims (model # CI-R) for the road version of the C8 Corvette that us mortals get to drive. These BBS CI-R wheels have an installed, easily replaceable, stainless steel, protective ring on their edge. Shown below is the black model version as it best displays this protective ring.
I've ordered & mounted their front + rear Platinum Silver wheel set for my Z51. Couldn't be happier w/the build, the look, the size & the off-set. I must add that this stainless steel rim protection ring was a pleasant and welcome surprise to me. Also, very glad to report that I haven't had to make use of this feature.... yet!
