[QUOTE=Sherri.;1604043212]I just picked up my C8 on Sept 4th and have only driven it home and see what this headlight had done from this drive home I was sick to my stomach deeply 🤢!!!! Brand new car already how is their even possible!!! Paint chips REALLY !!! I had to drive to my closest dealer so they could look over it all just to be told that Gm doesn’t even have a real fix to this problem??? I only have 200 miles on my car and my chipping has got worse just from going to the dealer and back home I’m so afraid to even drive it at this point . I’m so frustrated!!!
GM does not have a fix for this problem and they never will. Had the same problem with the vents on the C7 Z06's and problem was never fixed. I had a 16 and an18 Z06 with peeling paint. I

As some others have said, it's not usually a problem to install PPF immediately after painting. PPF was reinstalled on the front of our Prius v wagon immediately after the front bumper and hood was replaced during a collision damage repair. Our custom order Sienna got PPF installed at the factory right after the vehicle rolled off the assembly line and before it was shipped.. No problems at all with the paint under the PPF on either vehicle.

The C8 pealing paint problem at the headlights looks like a design flaw. The edge of the headlight housing is obviously digging into the bodywork causing the paint to peal as the body slightly flexes against the headlight housing. The headlight housing needs to be redesigned and/or a rubber gasket inserted between the headlight housing and the bodywork.

I'm just not used to buying new cars with as many issues as the the C8 has been having. Maybe I'm jumping out of the pot into the fire but I told my wife yesterday that I'm leaning towards getting my C8 HTC deposit back and buying something completely different and more practical.- leaning towards a nicely equipped BMW X7. It sucks that we have physical room for only two vehicles but I can't pry my wife out of her dream house.

"The edge of the headlight housing is obviously digging into the bodywork causing the paint to peal as the body slightly flexes against the headlight housing."

This is what the dealership stated. They will, in addition to repainting, will be reworking the fit of the headlight housings.

Geezer - stick with it. I cannot tell you how happy I am with this car.

If it peels off that easy there, makes a person wonder about the rest of the car. Looks like a amateur home paint job.

I just hope and pray that this paint peeling problem has been taken care of by Chevrolet for the 2022 C8.
Has any member here received a new 2022 C8 with this paint peeling issue or is it too early yet?
Good luck to all of us waiting for our new orders.

You will always be able to tell a repaint. The correct fix for this is find a shop that does airbrushing and pay for it yourself. Most Joe Blow GM Body Shops are not able to do this.

Nobody has received a 2022 yet, hopefully it's been addressed. I wonder how they would handle this is you had an NCM delivery with PPF, the company doing PPF for NCM would surely catch this and have to bring it to their attention. I've emailed with them, they sound super meticulous. Or is it more something that develops over time from rubbing?

Thank you rawbar, appreciate your help.
As of today my order is at 2000 and 'maybe' I will have my new 2022 C8 start getting built in about a month or so, so I really do hope that my new C8 will not have this dreaded paint pealing issue, nobody here wants it.
Hope Chevrolet is doing something about this horrible and painful problem.
Good luck to all of us waiting.

I hear you and its frustrating but the bolded is not accurate. The vents were redesigned 10mm smaller and with raised nibs on the back to keep it from rubbing and the smaller circumference made it so it didn't dig in.

Me and a buddy had 16Zs and both had the vent issue. They airbrush repaired them perfectly and the new vents installed. Granted it took 2 years for the fix but it did eventually come.

The paint around the headlights is similar except that to me is 99% prep 1% headlight install.

My late built 19Z was perfect in both the vent and fascia areas. Its a crap shoot on the fascias.

I've seen C7 and C8 with even rear fascia (and C8s rear taillight areas) paint peel.

Prep.

I had similar issues on two non-GM vehicles and the dealers refused to do anything under B2B. Hopefully my C8 won't have this issue.

who knows. But other threads have members posting their cars being picked up. Some with photos and detailing their experience. I have VIN #1993 which should be produced this week. One thread I am following is tracking the members who have placed orders for MY 2022 and the dates of deposit, production, delivery etc. this week should bring many more deliveries as the “hold” at BG seems to have been lifted. There are several Museum deliveries scheduled for this week as well it seems.

mine was received two weeks ago and already has to be serviced for this issue. I am very unhappy as of now this is unacceptable for such a expensive car.

So it hasn't been fixed for the '22s either? Great QC for an issue that's been going on since the C7 generation. How about addressing the issue so this doesn't keep happening, GM?

All they need to do is install a thin rubber or felt gasket around the edge of the headlamp pod to keep it from digging into the paint. This is ridiculous.
