Default My one disappointed

I’ve had my 3LT Z51 HTC for a month now. To me the car is so good It’s a treat each day to drive this awesome car. There’s one option I went out of my way to get. That is the micro fiber suede steering wheel. I had to add micro fiber seating surfaces to get it in my 3LT SKY COOL GREY interior. The reason was the car I drove at Spring Mountain in 2016 had a suede steering wheel. I thought it added to the handling compared to my hands slipping a bit on the leather steering wheel. Well on the C8 it seems the suede steering wheel is smaller not as thick as the leather steering wheel. It doesn’t fill my hands by like the leather.

I don't like mine either. Feels too slick. It should be better with gloves on.

You can buy a new leather one and swap it out. They are about $500 brand new

I never recommend alcantera on the wheel or heavily used areas. After a short while it looks horrible. Like its gummed up with stuff from your hands. You can clean it but only with special materials and a lot of careful work.

The Alcantara on the C8 steering wheel is very tight. It's not soft at all. The C7 steering wheel was a bit softer and more plush. You could squeeze your hand into it. This one is actually a bit slippery. It's so tight and dense I don't think it could get gummed up.

Can you get the suede seat inserts without the suede steering wheel?

I don't believe so.

It's not hard at all. Alcantara cleaner and a coarse terrycloth towel and it cleans right up. Just don't wait two years between cleanings.

Personal preference I suppose. I love the alcantara (sueded) steering wheel . I never had one before but I would definitely order it again. In the convertible it is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, also much more grippy. Very easy to maintain with Sonax alcantara cleaner, but a slightly damp microfiber cloth and a brush is really all that's needed. SONAX Upholstery & Alcantara Cleaner (sonaxusa.com)

Right there with you.

I’m on my third car with alcantara steering wheel and seats. Like you said, it’s cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I think it also holds up better than fake or real leather.

Most of the time it cleans up with plain old water and a soft hair brush. For those stubborn stains, Sonax Alcantara cleaner works great.

I wish you could get the wheel and seat inserts separately as an option. I'd love the inserts with the regular leather wheel.

Did you have a C7 with the suede steering wheel? It seemed not as slick and softer than the one in the C8. I do like the look and that it's cooler in the heat

you're right this CF steering not only looks incredible, it's much thicker, and it's also heavier, which really gives it a race car feeling especially around corners
(only $2k)
I love it

plus the option was around 500$ right? I got mine because either the two tone or something forced my config to spend the money on the steering wheel. Its OK but a waste of money imo…

Comp seats forced it on for me. It's not horrible, but definitely not worth it.

Well size can't be helped (other than perhaps with gloves or via aftermarket solutions).

Alcantara fabric, when brand new or after a good thorough cleaning, is pliable and can feel a bit slippery since the fibers can shift and roll a bit under the skin of your hands. This can give a bit of an odd and unsettling sensation (wheel feels like it's slipping) if you're used to the more sticky grip of leather and plastic. The natural tendency of course is to grip harder, which increases fatigue.

The good news is that as you drive the car over time, your hands will slowly transfer oils and perspiration to the fabric. After maybe 3000mi or so the alcantara will mat down a bit as the oils/sweat build up, and your grip will improve. You won't notice it until you clean the wheel.

For example: I took this before/after cleaning pic of my 2017 ZL1's wheel after a year or so of ownership. The difference in appearance was equaled by a similar change in grip (more before before cleaning, less after). Sonax Alcantara cleaner and a light colored cheap low-pile microfiber towel (I used two towels due to the amount of crud).
