I don't understand the reservation in having an open mind and trying something. It's not like buying a C8 lands you in a bad spot of what a mistake and now I'm stuck or I lose $20k for owning it a week. I only had MT fun cars and REALLY didn't want a DCT, until I tried it, and I won't go back. You can buy a M4, but if you want something that seems a little special, it's just another car and will blend in like a Camry. Big performance, but it's still just a standard looking coupe. If you ever get a chance to experience a C8 launch it will open your eyes too, it pulls almost a full G of acceleration (up to near 40) that is unbelievable.

My son said the same thing about the M4, nothing special externally, plus he hates the enlarged kidneys up front
The PDK is pretty damn amazing. Look at what it does to the C8 and 992 C2S, both sub 3 second 0-60 with all the whiz bang stuff in action. I've heard the the M4 Comp is good for low 3s also.
I'm still afraid that the DCT in either the C8 or 911 will become boring as it did it my last C7 Z06.
Doesn't really matter at this moment as neither of those two offerings are readily available and likely won't be for some time. Yet another side effect of the WuFlu.

One more proof that gm's 2+ sec 0-60 is a huge lie. Non of the independent youtube tests showed 2+sec. It's 3+ car.
New M3/M4 are fast af. Look the the race between the C8 and the base Carrera(non S). They are almost equal.
And now look what the M4 makes to the base 911(non S).

Actually, the 911 beat the C8 handily. I remember that video well as I was shocked how fast the new base 911 was. Thought for sure the C8 would beat it, but the 911 pulled away like it had significantly more power than the C8. Made no sense. Have to think they underrated the power on that 911, or something was wrong with the C8.
Hadn't seen the second video previously, but that M4 easily pulled away from the 911. So either something is off with one of, if not both of those races, or the M4 is MUCH faster than a C8. None of it makes any sense to me, because as we know the C8 is really damn quick, running low 11's, with some in the 10's with minor mods.

i just took delivery of my C8 z51 HTC, and honestly what a machine to drive…
remember it is a mid engine , your M4 is front engine total different driving and feeling …
also in regards of the transmission , what are you looking for ? You just like to be more involved with the car by doing it manually ? If that is what you like then take the M4 but if it is only because you think the DC is slow, let me tell you !! It is super fast !! Very very responsive… plus you have the paddle shift if you went to have fun and get involved with it.
anyway My vote goes to C8 hands down !

These results have been reproduced by numerous other automotive press professional tests and countless Draggy postings. Absolutely no secret about these metrics what so ever.

look at the last videos. The brand new M4 is faster than the 911S(roll on). While the C8 is much slower than the 911s. Watch the video. End of story.

I am not a track guy, excepting when I was a young man and raced in T&F and reached the Montreal '76 Olympics in the 800 meters. But the sound of this motor,God only knows what the Z06, GT and finally Zaro will produce!!! is so compelling. I am so happy that Corvette finally reached it's natural progression to mid-engine

The 800m is a man's race at any level, but at the Olympic level the degree of difficulty is off the charts. Serious, serious respect. Wow.
To avoid being completely off topic - Almost all of my cars have been manual transmissions. If the manual had been available in the C8 I would have ordered it without a second thought. But now that I have some seat time, if I could go back to a world where that choice does exist, I would get the DCT.
My C5 and C6 (still own) were manuals and didn't want anything different. But the DCT in my C8 is just another whole experience. No regrets.
DCT is nice, for sure.
A couple of Rennlist members who have bought C8's have said that the C8 DCT approaches Porsche PDK levels of performance, which is saying a ton about what GM has done with the C8.
