Default Blowout , You're paying?

Just had a blowout on my rear right tire going 35mph. with only 1165 miles.. No debris on the road. Dealer wants $200 for a new tire since I have no warranty on it.
I think it is a warranty defect and they should replace it. What do you think?

A lot can happen in 1100 miles. How you prove it's a warranty issue? Maybe you ran over something that damaged it? That's a $500 tire. If they'll do it for 200 I would jump on it.

Wait. They only want $200 for a new tire? That is a stellar price. This is for a C8, right?

Do you have access to the tire? Can you tell what the issue was? I have not had a
Blowout" in 40 years. It just made a "pop" noise and then no pressure? There should be evidence if it was a defect. There would be separation in the sidewall or tread. Or wear through a cord. What did the dealer say was the cause. Tell them you want it presented to the tire manufacturer for a warranty claim.

One of the first things I did after getting the car was go to Discount tire and buy their tire warranty that covers any failure, puncture or defect.

You need to prove it is a defect that requires the dealer to replace the tire for free. $200 is a great price. Pay the $200 and worry about something else.

I think if you read the warranty you'll find the GM warranty excludes tires. There's probably a separate tire warranty from Michelin. If you really want to try to get the tire covered, see what that says, and reach out to Michelin.

Unless you purchased a separate wheel/tire warranty it's on you. Dealer is not going to eat that cost I doubt. $200 for the tire is cheap.

Yep, did the same when I got my C8 in September. A month ago had a nail near the sidewall in the rear. Got a new tire free ($420.)

Had bought the same insurance at Discount Tire for the wife's 2018 BMW X5 SUV. She had 4 flats and two with nails near the sidewall. That was two 315 section width run flat (~$399 each - free.)

She just got a 2021 X5 SUV and went straight to Discount Tire, $200 for insurance- hope it's never needed but if it is!!

BTW the 2018 is going to daughter. Checked with Discount tire and told the warranty goes with the tire (they record the serial number and it's in their computer system.)

$200? Who’s the dealer? Will they sell me four new Michelin’s for $800?

@Racer X @JerryU You can buy Discount Tire's warranty on a car already equipped with factory tires that you didn't purchase from them?!?!

Yes, you have to take the car to them and they measure the tire wear and take some numbers off of them and issue certificates.

You should probably tell him you want a same model Michelin and not opt for the Big Boss Radial. $200 doesn't buy much of a tire.

The dealer said that whoever made the decision stated they would charge me only $200 as it was a new car. Will take photos of it and complain it sounds more like a warranty defect. The road was clear of any debris C8 2021 Yes. a pop noise then air leaked out.

ditto. I was just at discount buying tires for my wife’s van - I’m gonna go buy warranty for my C8 tires. That’s cool.

My car isn't arriving for about 4 weeks but I called Discount Tire to get a quote. Gave them the tire model and all specs and they came up with less than$200 for the warranty for all 4 C8 tires.
