$1k Price Increase at 3400
#21
COINCIDENTALLY our MSRP (at least mine) IS sales price. GM says that sales price is $1k higher than what we agreed to months ago.

Six of the 50 states do not have a trade-in sales tax credit policy. Those states are California, Hawaii, Maryland, Kentucky, Michigan and Virginia. The District of Colombia does not have a net sales tax policy, either. In these states there is no sales tax savings with a trade-in, and you pay the full tax amount on the cost of a new vehicle. Sales tax is not an issue in New Hampshire, Montana and Oregon, since these states do not have a sales tax.

Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Just picked up my Red Mist 3LT and was great, but the window sticker included the mid year $1k price increase. My order was at 3400 as of the date of the increase and I thought cars under order were not affected by the increase? The dealer was great to deal with, but said that the price increase affected any car that wasn't yet produced. Will have to call GM tomorrow to discuss, but curious to see if others have had a similar situation.
Despite that small hiccup, was a great day!!!

Always get price protection on the MY you're ordering. If it gets bumped to the next MY, you're not protected.

GM needs better control of scumbag dealer activities like this. Like penalties, stripping away allocations if they charge above MSRP, etc. etc.

I was at the dealership today for the paperwork to pick up my c8 in a few days. SRE and order accepted 1/5/21. The finance guy and GM had no clue about price protection. I asked them to check as I am doing now on the forum. The sales guy is helping me out as he has a number of orders that will have the same problem. They were courteous enough, but no resolution today. They need to honor the sales price and do the right thing.

The finance guy should know this stuff. Probably does. If not, he's not very good.

Literally, no one is “PRICE” protected. All prices RISE.
You’re protected from what you need to pay GM & your dealer. A good thing obviously.
The cost of every vehicle is $1,000 higher ($1500 for 1 LT HTC).
You don’t pay $1,000 more—but your STATE recognizes the actual higher price. So you’ll pay a higher tax now than you would have last month on the exact same car.

Not accurate. GM only said that orders in Workbench as of March 1st will be price protected. If you made a deposit on a 2021 but it wasn't in Workbench yet, you'll pay the extra grand even on a 2021.

FWIW, my order is with Criswell, and I just checked with Mike Furman. He confirmed that SRE (retail sold) orders entered before March 2nd are price protected, and that while the sticker will show the increase Criswell will not charge the extra $1,000 to the buyer on price protected orders.
If your dealer is trying to charge you the extra $1K they're either clueless or liars. And it really does seem most GM dealers are clueless. Might want to refer the F&I guy to the GM statement quoted here:

An update. Spoke to GM and they agreed that my car's MSRP was not raised despite a window sticker that shows otherwise. In GM's system my car was shown as sold on the effective date of the price increase so not subject to it. They also said they can't tell dealers what to do regarding pricing. Spoke to the sales person and he agrees that I shouldn't be charged so needs to work it out with the dealership manager, but when I raised this during signing the docs a manager there didn't seem to want to make the adjustment. I plan to keep pursuing so will see. The dealership does appear to be confused so I am assuming they will do the right thing and holding off completing my customer survey until this is resolved

Didn’t the buyer and seller agree to a price via a written contract? If they did, then no legal entitlement exists to do otherwise; rather a legal obligation to honor the contract exists.

Today in paying for my car, the dealer said when he is reimbursed the $ 1000 he will give me a check. So I will be watching and asking quite frequently.
Car was built Monday and 10 days to Museum delivery.

Because the contract probably specifies just "MSRP", not a specific number. The dealer will be charging MSRP. The Monroney label will have the new, higher price. The big dealers will all adjust the sales price at purchase. Many other dealers will not.

That is not the way they should handle this. Doing it this way, you have to pay sales tax on the additional $1000 - plus you are totally at the mercy of the dealer actually refunding your money. Another crappy dealer.
