Default Garage lift recommendations

I have a double car garage with an extra high ceiling. I plan keep three or possibly four of my special cars in it. Anyone have recommendations on their experiences. What to get and what to avoid? Thanks

Default Worth Lift & side mount Hi-Lift Garage motor

I just did this right after Covid started in 2020 in preparation of the C8 arrival. My garage ceiling is just under 12 feet high, not a problem until you realize that you lose 3-4 feet from the ceiling with a standard garage door opener install. I replaced my door opener with a side mount motor & had the rails moved to what they call a "hi-lift" position on the doors. Now my door opens up and sits only about 6-8 inches from the ceiling, plenty of room now to stack cars.....The 4 post lift I went with is a Worth Lift, Mainly because its made in USA, not many of them are...

High ceiling (at least 10' for low profile cars; 12 ft is better) is one thing. Next, how much room to you have past the garage door opening? If you don't have a lot of room forward, then you'll not get two cars on/under the lift and be able to open the garage door too.

Here are two pics. The mini on this rack gives you some perspective on when the car would hit the opened garage door and how much space is left underneath the car. In this case, there is still enough room in this garage to move the lift more forward, and a low profile car on top with a low rear end makes a difference too. BTW, this is a pretty big garage, like more than 30 ft deep. The ceiling here is 10'

Check out garage equipment supply for a list of possibilities. You can get a double wide 4 post lift that will let you lift 2 cars and park 2 under it.

Have to ask...what good does a lift do when you can't get a car underneath it?

I notice some 4 post lifts are bolted to the floor and some are not. Not having it bolted would concern me, but what do the lift companies say about it?

Depends on your budget . I bought an Atlas lift from Greg Smith Equipment comes with wheels, drip trays , ramps, jack tray. wheel chucks and wheel stops. The price is higher on their web site, I paid $2000 picked up at their NJ location, they do have locations all over the country.
I have it for 16 months without issue, I did buy the hydraulic jack 6 months ago.
My garage is 16' high in center drops to 10' at ends, 24'x24' over all .

You can (and I do), just need 2 lower profile cars. I used the mini as an example of how much a higher profile car sucks up the space.

My Direct Lift is marketed as portable and even comes with removable castor wheels. They say it is acceptable to leave unbolted but bolting it down improves stability.

My lift came with a wheel kit so it can be moved , that's why you see them not bolted down. I did bolt mine down, my friends who have the same lift have not bolted theirs down and have no issues. I did use mine for 6 months without bolting it down and it never moved

My garage floor has a slope, so I choose to make & install some 3" thick square shim pads under the lower end to help level out the ramps without putting too much undue stress on the cables. Then I bolted all 4 post down just to avoid any accidents.
The manufacturer's instruction said that the 4 post lift did not need to be bolted down, but due to that slope I felt it was a safer way to install the lift.

Definitely need to invest in the motor relocation kit for the high lift. It's not too expensive and add a ton of room/looks to your garage. Nice current setup though!

I choose to go with a single post lift in my double car garage as I don't have to deal with post in middle of the garage.

Works great and I very happy with my choice.

Boy...how deep do you have to set the anchors for that? That is really cool!

That was my first choice of type of lift, love that single post design, but I found out in speaking with the manufacturer that you cannot anchor those type of lifts into a post tension concrete slab, which is what my house has....... Bummer

Without having the inboard post to deal with allow enough room to get the C8 next to my Ferrari and my Callaway on lift above the Ferrari.

Requires a 3 inch slab and has 6 or 8 anchor bolts with capacity of 6k lb.
