Probably the worst financial decision I've made in my entire life.
Buying a new Corvette.
I've owned 7 or 8 Vettes in my life, from a 64 to a 2014. I have never bought brand new Corvette. In fact the last 'new car' I ever bough was a '76 Cutlass for my wife. It's not that I couldn't afford one, I just never saw the value in buying car that loses up to 1/3 its value as soon was drive it off the lot. Now I'm going on 76 years old, and have been financially quite successful in my life. My wife and I have been married for over 50 years, and we have no children, so our estate will be going to our 5 nieces and nephews when we're gone. Each will receive a 'tidy' sum. When the C-8 was introduced I fell in love with the design. Wifey says 'go for it' you've earned that one indulgence in your life. It was not an easy decision for me, but I ordered a 2020 in February of 2020, and needless to say, I'll end up with a 2021. I ordered exactly the car I want. Bad financial decision, wonderful anticipation for my new ride. besides those heirs will blow through their inheritance before the grass grows over our graves..........

You've obviously never purchased a time share, talk about the worst financial decision in a lifetime. But then, there is always a boat purchase that probably rivals the timeshare. Enjoy the car.

If buying a new C8 is the worst financial decision you made in your long life, then I, for one, congratulate you on your wisdom! Just be glad you never decided to buy a new motorhome! Do that, and that new C8 will feel like it was pocket change....

A new vette purchase isn't a financial decision, it's an emotional decision. It can make you happy and you can't put a price on happiness.

Let your nieces and nephews create and earn their own success rather than spoiling them and creating an unlevel playing field in our society.
I say spend all of what you earned and then give the rest to worthwhile charities.

I have an idea for a way you can make your WORST financial decision in life even more atrocious. Go ahead and drive it, depreciation be damned. Don't just put it under that form fitting custom cover you also will be purchasing (if you haven't already), only to take it off and look at it every weekend. Wake up every morning, check the weather, spend 5 minutes with your detailing spray (or don't), and get out there. How many better places are there to be right now then behind the wheel of the mid-engined Corvette everyone thought about over the course of your ownership of 7 or 8 Vettes. [By the way, love you are not sure.] The sound. The view over the hood. The freedom. And the satisfaction of gratification delayed, which is something many do not understand -- but you do.
Take each of your lucky nieces and nephews for a ride and have a conversation. If that memory does not beat an inheritance, then they were not deserving in the first place.

A very wealthy retired friend of mine was trying to decide whether to spend several million on a jet for his personal use. He could easily afford it but was worried that spending that much for what he called a toy was crazy. He set up a meeting with his money people, lawyers, etc. to discuss it.
He made his decision when his head financial guy said, "Jim, I've yet to see the Brinks truck follow the hearse."
He has enjoyed flying anywhere he wants, anytime he wants. OP, enjoy your new C8, YOLO, You Only Live Once.

I agree with the others. You only live once. Plus your money will not follow you to the grave. You have worked hard your entire life to gain financial success. Enjoy what you earned a long time ago and don't feel bad about it! Enjoy your C8 when you get it. Cheers👍

I am 70, and thinking like you I placed a C8 order in as well. Its an investment which will give returns in joy, pleasure, happiness, satisfaction, fun and a whole lot of smiles. And dont baby it for someone else, drive it as its meant to be driven!

I agree with those before who said to go for it! You’ve been prudent in your car purchasing decisions thru the years, so feel good about the C8. Don’t dwell on the decision and certainly don’t permit your decision to remain as background static. Congratulations! What color and options did you order?
If you were second guessing, try my antics on for size: First, my wife and I have two children and four grandchildren who will inherit what’s left behind. Our car purchasing history was mixed until retirement. Most were purchased used but a few new. However, we always kept our cars for 5 - 10 years, Then, I retired almost 9 years ago, and prudence in regard to vehicle purchasing ceased! I’d say went out the window, but it was more like went thru the wall. Didn’t have time to unlatch the window.
Over the last 9 years, we purchased the following vehicles:
NEW- 2011 32 1/2’ Class A motorhome; 2011 Fiat 500 (everyone with a Class A needs to pull something around, right?; 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit; 2013 Corvette Grand Sport; 2015 Cadillac CTS AWD (if it was missing an option, that was an error in omission); 2015 Corvette Z06; 2016 Lincoln MKX; 2017 Cadillac C6 fully loaded Platinum Edition (actually, it had 296 miles on it so should probably be considered used...... but if I’m coloring the kettle black, we’ll call it new); and last, but not least, a C8.
USED- 1984 Corvette; 1988 Corvette, 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette with 11,800 miles on it.
So, if I haven’t missed any vehicle purchases since 2011, the total is 11 (ELEVEN)!! 🙊🙈🙉🤦♂️
Crazy? Only as a Mad Hatter. Should I, or we (as I consider my wonderful wife an accomplice or at minimum an enabler, as some of the 11 were for her or “us”,too).
So, let’s get back to you and your decision to purchase a C8. Doesn’t even nudge the poor decision needle, let alone the insanity needle.
Again, please enjoy your C8 with a clear conscience. Beast regards!
