C8 V4 mode impressive vs C7
Today I tried something different. I wanted to drive it like a normal car. No paddle shifting and in tour mode. Most of my time has been in either the break in period or sport/ track modes and always using the paddles.
I hadn't seen anyone post before about V4 mode so I thought I would try to get it to work. Before the 500 mile period it seems the computer will not let you go into V4 mode to protect the cylinders in the break in period. In the C7, you had to remember to do this yourself.
In the C7, I truly disliked V4 mode. You could feel the change in the car and hear the exhaust change every time it went into V4. The C7 V4 exhaust sound was pretty awful. And if you just moved the throttle just a little the engine would switch back and forth constantly if driving down the freeway. For example if you were going down a freeway at 60 mph, as soon as there was a little rise in the road it would go back to V8 mode. So it would do this back and forth all the time in the most annoying way.
Luckily in the C7 you can turn V4 mode off, which I did. But it was disappointing that this feature didn't work well enough to use. The entire idea was to save fuel on a long trip.
So today the car went into V4 mode for the first time and I have to say, there is no way you can tell that it did. The exhaust in tour mode is pretty quiet so I think this helps. But there is no sensation in the car either. The only way to know is see the green V4 symbol light up.
What is also surprising is you can accelerate gently in V4 mode and it still stays there. So its switching back and forth less often than the C7. As soon as you put your foot in it the car will switch to V8 instantly and again, I couldn't tell any difference.
Seems to me Chevy finally has this feature figured out.

Our car went into V4 mode during the first 500 miles. I saw it on the cluster and switched into manual mode to shut it down .

My car has been going in and out of v4 mode since I drove it home. You can hear it switch just before the indicator shows v4... Is it normal to hear a little Pfft sound ? Is it because I'm in Sport Mode ? My Ram truck has multi displacement but you don't hear of feel anything.

Modified C8 of the Year 2021 Finalist
The OP sounds exactly like my complaints regarding AFM in the ‘16 Camaro...word for word the same experience that I find annoying. Also it had the same engine as the C7, so not surprising at all.
Good to hear the C8 has it better. I might actually leave the car in Tour for long interstate trips now.

Getting rid of the drive shaft gets rid of the torque bend from the driving end (motor) to the receiving end (clutch/transmission) making the transmission of power considerably stiffer and thus less prone to procuding vibrations.

I believe in my C7 with the A8 the only way to get rid of V4 mode is to use manual drive mode and paddle shift it or purchase the range device that plugs into the OBD port. Is the Range device available for the C8?

After owning a few C7 models, I found the V4 mode in the C8 much less distracting. Hardly noticeable compared to the C7. In the Z06 I always felt like I was gunning the engine when passing on the highway....lol
