I’m out, but not my decision.
I put a deposit down December 3 of 2019 at a large Chevy dealer in southeastern Wisconsin. Many dealerships under their umbrella. Well, of course my 2020 order rolled over into a 2021. Fine, new signed contract with my $2,000 deposit rolling forward. Same car as the 2020 plus the front lift and magnetic ride. Great.
Wednesday the dealer calls me and states his dealership will not be getting any allocations, none, for 2021. He apparently read a short sentence or two of a letter, memo, from GM stating such. The words were not his, it sounded typical bureaucratic speak... blah blah blah.... blah. So he is sending my deposit back.
Could he be BSing me? I guess anything is possible, but I don’t sense it. It really sounds as if he’s being truthful.
So... I think I am doing a pause. Too much uncertainty. I have my C6, which is good (and a Miata, also good). If I go with a large east coast dealer with another deposit, by the time my name comes up on that list, I feel the backlog will have disappeared and I’ll be able to order or buy off the lot. Who knows, maybe even a discount.
So, I’ll keep peeking on this forum, see what’s new, peoples’ new complaints, etc. I really see no other car in my near or even far future. I am happy with what I got. But if things change, who knows... maybe the EV vette, or Z06, or ?
Hope everyone’s Thanksgiving went well. Now to work on the leftovers.

Unmodified C8 of the Year 2021 Finalist
If it's a large dealership that has presumably sold Corvettes in the past, it's hard for me to imagine why they would be selling no C8 Corvettes (unless they crossed GM or something, and it's not their choice).

I agree. I assume you had an agreement of MSRP, and I am betting that now that the dealer sees they are still able to get more than MSRP, that is the route they want to go for now.
I will also point out that as far as we have been told, GM advised their dealers that they would be only supplying 3 month allocation numbers. So if that is still true, no dealer knows how many cars they will be getting for the 2021 model year.

Sounds like BS to me. IF he's getting this correspondence from GM already, expect a lot of people to be disappointed very soon...like thousands. How many Corvettes does this "big" dealer sell?
I think your hope of 2021s being readily available and maybe even able to be bought at a discount is unrealistic.

I would learn from this experience and place a Z06 deposit at the big 3 beings you are OK with your current rides. But always remember this flim-flam MO (method of operation).
I call it BS also with a "large" dlr "not getting any allocations, none for 2021."
On the other hand is anyone getting any 2020 MY allocations for 2021?

Yep, no doubt about it. Many large regional dealership groups are going to their local customers and telling them to go to Hell! They are giving their deposits back and willing to run the risk that later that customer will find it was all a lie when cars actually physically show up and they deliver them to someone else.
I guess the thought is that these groups with 10 or 20 stores, worth well in excess of a hundred million, just don't care. They are willing to risk all for the sake of selling a few Corvettes for what, 10 grand over sticker? For people with tens of millions of dollars, an extra fifty thousand or so is certainly worth screwing their customer even if discovery is pretty simple...NOT!

So... how can I fight this? Not cash the check and wait? Wait for what? I’m sure they’ll take my allocation and change the specs so I cannot say, “hey-that’s my car”. I did get it at MSRP, plus $300 paperwork crap. I have a signed contract.
Interesting if true of the three month allocation notice.
I will have my wife call on her cell and ask if they are taking names.
Should I tell them I will wait, how do I know I won’t be continually put back at the bottom of the pile?
All constructive advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Why ANYONE AT ALL goes with a local dealership is beyond me.
With so much information on the net about problems, bait and switches, markups and halftruths or false promises, why do people keep at it? What is achieved?
There are three top Corvette dealerships in the country, and its easy to find them out. It seems if you buy from them, there will be NO problems. How hard is that?

The contract is for a 2021.
I wrote my sales person and reiterated some points made here, though greatly tempered.
I mentioned I already waited a year, what’s a few more months. The salesman agreed with me, of course, that’s his job. But he’ll relay my correspondence to the GM next week.
We’ll see. I reminded him of the signed Wisconsin DMV contract, and that I am a man of my word, and hope that he is too.
Why didn’t I just go to McMulkin? My last Corvette was from this dealership. That transaction went seamlessly. Why would I this purchase would be different? I am of the age group, mindset where I want to see the person I am dealing with. Maybe a fault in today’s world. If I buy and turn over Corvettes like some of you guys here, maybe I would have been more seasoned and calloused to theses types of dealerships, though as I said my last one went fine, but that was ten years ago.
So, thanks to you fine folks, I am standing my ground.

Not all dealers are scum.
Our local dealer gets around 90 allocations in a year (normal year), and is well respected by most customers.
