I saw a vid where Rick Conti read a letter from GM stating that some dealership allocations were getting re-evaluated, implying some dealers that did not follow the rules might get punished...

Yes; they were caught "exporting" cars.

They’re flat out liars. There’s no way a heavy volume group dealer is getting zero allocations (I know I know some of them sell surprisingly FEW Vettes—but NOT ZERO!)

They either a.) changed internal policy and decided in recent weeks or months to sell the cars they get allocated at a premium to MSRP.

OR...b.) they decided to limit their allocated vehicles to heavily equipped high MSRP cars (screw the base buyers).

Crappy crappy way to treat a deposit paying customer like you. Sorry to hear. These scumbags need to be exposed.

This would be my guess. Order the few they are getting their way and put in the showroom at $10k or more over sticker.

**** way of doing business with a repeat customer.

There are three top Corvette dealerships in the country, and its easy to find them out. It seems if you buy from them, there will be NO problems. How hard is that?

i go with my small dealer....my cars coming in December. Only his second c8 because I buy all my cars from him and get a nice discount off msrp.

They've decided to keep all 2021 C8 orders for dealer stock in the hope of raking in the ca$h.

My understand, (barring strikes, pandemics, shutdowns, etc.), is that EVERY dealership is guaranteed a minimum of 2 C8's.

I have read that a few dealers have been "uninvited' by GM for screwing around with cars. Their allotments have been taken away for next year. UNCONFIRMED

Now there is a great plan by GM. Let’s screw the customer to teach the dealer a lesson. Good reason to buy a Porsche.

Simple, I put an initial deposit with a small, local dealer on August 24, 2020. I was #1 on his list. My 2021 HTC is sitting at 3000. That's why.

Despite immediate feelings to the contrary, you may ultimately have been done a favor. I've seen this before with friends and other "high demand" sports cars. Buy something else to tide you over (if you don't already have any other to fill in) until the smoke clears; it will. All the best.

Fine, new signed contract with my $2,000 deposit rolling forward. Same car as the 2020 plus the front lift and magnetic ride. Great.

Wednesday the dealer calls me and states his dealership will not be getting any allocations, none, for 2021. He apparently read a short sentence or two of a letter, memo, from GM stating such. The words were not his, it sounded typical bureaucratic speak... blah blah blah.... blah. So he is sending my deposit back.

Could he be BSing me? I guess anything is possible, but I don’t sense it. It really sounds as if he’s being truthful.

So... I think I am doing a pause. Too much uncertainty. I have my C6, which is good (and a Miata, also good). If I go with a large east coast dealer with another deposit, by the time my name comes up on that list, I feel the backlog will have disappeared and I’ll be able to order or buy off the lot. Who knows, maybe even a discount.

So, I’ll keep peeking on this forum, see what’s new, peoples’ new complaints, etc. I really see no other car in my near or even far future. I am happy with what I got. But if things change, who knows... maybe the EV vette, or Z06, or ?

Hope everyone’s Thanksgiving went well. Now to work on the leftovers.
I think it's complete b-s. If your dealer has sold vettes in the past, no reason why he would get zero allocations....not even one. Several of the smaller dealers are getting well above MSRP so he maybe playing you....giving you back your money so he can resell for more. (May even have a buyer who's agreed to something much higher.

Case in point.....I have a HTC on order with a small dealer. During the summer he received an unsolicited (unallocated) coupe and offered it to me. Talked to the wife and we decided to wait for the HTC. Later I learned he sold the coupe for $20k over MSRP.

To heal my pain I’d sell the C6 or Miata (preferably the latter) and use the profit to buy an existing C8 marked up over MSRP. But that’s just me.

It must be a torturous experience to wait nearly a year and have this happen.

This is weird. I went with my local dealership and it worked out just fine. They were extremely accurate with the updates along the way and the car arrived exactly when they expected. They also sold ALL of their C8's at MSRP.
There is no direct correlation between "local dealer" and scam. Every dealer is local to someone, lol. Maybe yours sucks. #Shrug

However many trucks, SUV’s, sedans, etc they sell is completely meaningless. All that matters is how many Corvettes they sold this year will determine next year’s Corvette allocations.

Nothing wrong with supporting your local dealership, I have a good one & wouldn't hesitate to use them if I was in the market

Interesting if true of the three month allocation notice.

I will have my wife call on her cell and ask if they are taking names.

Should I tell them I will wait, how do I know I won’t be continually put back at the bottom of the pile?

All constructive advice is appreciated.

Thanks.
Seems pretty simple to me. You have lost confidence in your dealer or he may be telling the truth. Either way it's time to move on. You certainly can't force him to sell you a car he has or doesn't have.

this 10000% unless you're (gulp) close to the foreseeable end of your life OR have FU money? Just bide your time until everything settles down. You'll have a better car as each year they add stuff and make the prior year lacking in some way (unless you "need" a certain discontinued color).

I am glad I am in the low 40 spot on Mike Furman's list for a C8Z. But honestly? I picked up something to hold me over and every weekend i enhance it and get more enjoyment than i did from driving my corvettes around (here). The roads here suck. This is NOT Corvette country lol.

Good luck. Enjoy your miata and the C6. Both are great cars and fun.
