Unmodified C8 of the Year 2021 Finalist
My (nick)name is Bear, and I have a first-world problem with CMG.
I don't have a C8 yet, and I plan to use this thread to record my journey to owning my first Corvette--including the major decisions I make, and the questions I have, along the way.
My avatar is me at 16 with the '69 Camaro I bought with my own earnings the previous year, just before I got my license.
I decided to order my first Corvette last month without ever having seen a C8 in person. It costs about 3-4 times more than any other car I've ever owned, but it's time to stop saving so much of my money, and I have no doubt that it will be well worth it!
I guess my "problem" is more of a question. The car I put a deposit on is Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic. I've never seen that color except for in photos online, but I think everyone can agree that it's much closer to white than gray.
That makes me wonder if it should really be written "Ceramic Matrix/Gray Metallic" (as in, the color is Ceramic Matrix and the metallic color in it is gray). What do you think?
I ask because I've seen it abbreviated "CMG" which implies the DMV would list it as a gray car on my registration, which just doesn't seem accurate.

Say, the car company gets to "name" the color. I guess that's just the way it goes. In a way, it is what it is. Just don't get stopped by the poh-leece 'cause they may have some problems with the registration saying one thing, and their eyes saying another. j/k Enjoy your car.

It is metallic. Very close in color to that which Cadillac uses. I had it on my '16 CTS-V. Why Chevy calls it gray is beyond me because it damn well isn't gray. In fact, it is closer to a pearl white metallic as it has a slight pinkish hue under certain lighting conditions. It is a stunner. So much better than appliance white.

As a previous poster said, they do get to name the color. I'm just trying to interpret what they mean. Surely, they don't believe it's gray, which makes me wonder if that only refers to the metallic qualities of the paint, hence "Ceramic Matrix/Gray Metallic" (with a slash) like "Tension/Twilight Blue Dipped."
If a credit card company uses information about my car to verify my identity online and asks me what color it is, I'd be inclined to say "white," but I have a feeling they'd be looking for the answer "gray." That happened to me with a car I owned a few years ago, so that's why I've been thinking about it.

It's whitish. It's grayish. It's not white. It's not gray.
Go find a C7 in CMG to look at in person.

Exactly what I did. Last month, Classic had one of the GM tour cars on the showroom floor. 3LT, Red w/sueded seating surfaces.

There is a thread in the C7 section dedicated to CMG pics. A few are next to an arctic white C7. You can really see the difference there. Good luck with your purchase.

I just joined the forum, and this is my first post.
I don't have a C8 yet, so my avatar is me at 16 with the '69 Camaro I bought with my own earnings the previous year, just before I got my license.

Think of it as a blanket of snow after a couple of days of soot and dust settles, or a new pair of white sheets after washing multiple times. It's definitely more white than grey.

OP - Your location reads: “Not too far from MacMulkin”. Does that mean your deposit is with MacMulkin? If so, you’ll be having a great buying experience. MacMulkin is the #2 Corvette dealer in the country (behind Kerbeck in Atlantic City), and MacMulkin is known to be one of the most reliable, honest and trustworthy dealers.
