Another c8 vs c7 z06
I finally found a low mileage (4500) c7 z06 z07 package that I had been looking for for a long time. Went to west coast corvette to drive the car and was super excited to take it home for 63k plus fees.
parked my car up front and in a min or so that it took me to get to the showroom all I was thinking about was how great it feels that couple months of exhausting search for my z is finally over . My feet felt numb. Are my sensory inputs being saturated by joy? Is it the 120 degree asphalt melting my nervous system? Who cares! Happiness is around the corner. As I walked in the showroom, the silhouette of a black object caught my eyes..... what is this thing? Lambo huracan? F458?
My heart stopped ticking for a sec. my pupils dilated. My knees felt weak. I was overcome with sadness.. sense of hopelessness. It is the c8.... my jaw dropped to the floor.
With my eyes locked on this mid engine monstrosity,I pass by the very thing that spent countless hours searching for.
ive seen the c8 many times close and driving, but I had never seen one in black before... any shadow of the doubt I had about the c8 design are gone out the window. My god this thing looks gorgeous in black....
The 3lz interior black on black and red stitching is absolutely impeccable. The carbon fiber around the instrument panel and gt headrest Seats look out of this world... look at all the metal accents....Absolute perfection. It made the 992 911 i was looking at yesterday look cheap in comparison... god damn you GM. God damn you China virus... how can I spend mid 60s on c7 after seeing this.... how can I wait 365 days... 525600 min to get my hands on one of these? I wanted to cry. I was overwhelmed with disappointment. How can I go without a corvette for a whole year? Maybe I should buy the Z and trade in next year... I'll be 10-15k upside down when it is said and done. 15k seems a lot but it's only about 2cent a min divided in a year.

Having never been in a C7 - hold off if the 15k moves the needle for you. Either way, get in line...or find one on the "reasonable side" of the used market. Having just seen mine in the flesh briefly before delivery - they are striking in person. Pics in comparison make it seem longer/bigger/smaller all at the same time than in person. I have been staring at online vids/pics for over a year and saw mine today for the first time....it's a jaw dropper!

Every car person should experience a C7Z, whether to get a ride in one, or to own one. They are badass.
However nothing beats something new. If you're already debating on trading the C7Z after 1 year of getting it, to get yourself into a C8, that doesn't make sense.
I would bypass the C7Z all together then. The C8 is much more refined, newer, has better tech, will draw more looks and you'll be one step ahead of everyone else who doesn't have a C8, in terms of experiencing what is next on the horizon for the C8 (meaning the next variant).
And a C8 destroys a C7Z all day from a dig to about 100+, depending. There's i video i believe, i can't remember exactly of a C8 annihilating a C7Z from 0-112.

I ordered my C8 in August of 2019 and immediately sold my 2018 Z06 knowing it would be worth a lot less when I picked up my new C8. At the time people were asking me how I could get rid of a Z06 for a C8. I have had my C8 for 3 months and 5000 miles. This is my eighth Corvette and the best Corvette ever produced! Can't wait for my C8 Z06!

A Corvette in black is best, until keeping it clean overwhelms you, I have owned two black CTS-Vs, taught me alot, still have one and my two current Vettes, C6 and C7Z, are msm and aw respectively, may get a black C8Z but if so it will be a garage queen.
I would not be disappointed as the owner of a C7Z, a damn nice car with great capabilities!!

Sold my C7 Z06 for a C8. Loved that Z06. It had boundless power. This C8 is quicker. Over 100 the Z06 would walk away, but the C8 is a better car in almost every meaningful way. The best is yet to come for the C8 but this is a heck of a starting point. These are the good old days and I'm enjoying the ride.

And btw, those angles of the pics you shown, the c8 looks A LOT better. More aggressive, modern, more exotic and has better presence.

My suggestion is buy a preowned higher mileage c7 z06 in the high fifties provately......keep it for two years. Put your name on a 2022 list for a c8 with a forum vendor. (I recommend mike firman criswell in maryland. As i received an excellent purchase experience)
your depreciation on a higher mileage c7 z06 will be minimal.
live both dreams
both amazing corvettes...the c7 z06 manuals a beast...,and a hell of a lot of fun. The c8 z51 is a great sportscar too.

Tomorrow is never guaranteed. Call Mike Furman, get on his list for a new C8, after you buy that C7 Z06.

The brakes are excellent, close to the C7 Z06 but not quite as good. I think the lateral grip at the limit was better on the C7 Z06, but again pretty close. The mid engine is very predictable and easy to drive fast. You can apply throttle on the apex of a curve and not get out of shape. Similar throttle applications on the Z would get the car out of shape. The C8 Z51 is a rocket to 100. It doesn't have that endless pull the Z had when you got into triple digits in 4th gear. I have zero regrets, but I do think the C8 needs more tire, brakes and horsepower. I know that is coming.
