Looking At This Photo And Thinking of Corvette Styling Heritage

That "ugly ***" wrap-around side marker light is a heck of a lot better integrated than the separate lights around the wheel well on the C7, or the randomly stuck on ones on the C6 or C5. Side marker lights are mandatory, and integrating them with the taillight is cleaner than the alternatives. Or do you really prefer this:
Or this:
Yet somehow there are tens of thousands of people on waiting lists not only for the Stingray, but the Z06 and E-ray. Yep, sure is a failure.

I love how you think the waiting list means anything. Most new cars have waiting lists now if you don't know. Nothing exclusive to the C8.
If it looks dated now, it will age very badly. Just a visually poor design.

Worse butt than the C8. This one looks like it has old man “classic” hank hill *** disorder.
“Hank, you’ve got no ***!”
I think the only thing the C8 needs to really complete the rear end is a rear diffuser with fins. Helps remove some of the boxy-ness.

Bunky's Rat Rod--1928 Dodge Bros
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. That said, perhaps the Hood wasn't the perfect spot for the photo. My '56 has been featured in three magazines, yet my Rat Rod gets more attention at car shows. We all have opinions--i think the C-8 looks like my grandson's Transformer. So, the value to our sport is different looks rather than a cookie cutter assembly line..

I'll take the integrated C8 side markers over the tacked on, sore thumb versions any day.

And you're right. The ugly, tacked on side marker lights of prior generations have aged very badly, and are a very poor visual design. They look like a wart on a beautiful woman's ***.

I was trying to figure out what OP meant with sharing Malibu styling. I remember renting a Malibu and noted shapes shared in the tail lights (like Camaro) and the hexagonal rear license plate recess. But those aren't hard profile lines that define each car's unique identity. They're more like "texturing" or "design language" shared among the entire Chevy lineup that can change with minor bumper or tail light refreshes without altering the C8's identifiable lines enough to be mistakened as a different car (Malibu or Camaro or Corvette SUV/Crossover) or generation (C9).
Major car makers like Toyota do this. Even with identifiable on-brand design language, it's hard to confuse a Sienna with a Supra with a Corolla.
Speaking of C3s, this is probably one of the cleanest and meanest looks I've seen:
