HELP!!!!!!! Factory car cover stained my car!!!!!!!
y C8 arrived earlier than expected and I have to make room in my garage, so while it would sit on my driveway for 2 weeks, I figured I would buy the factory car cover to what I thought would protect it, I did and bought the outdoor cover. Installed it last night around 11pm, took it off today around 6pm and found black stains all over the roof of the car!!! besides the roof there are some minor ones on the A pillars and rear deck lid. But mostly on the roof. I am a detail fanatic and have everything, so I tried wax, a polish, and a very aggressive rubbing compound by hand with some serious pressure, nothing, then I used a clay bar, also NOTHING! the stains are not coming out or even lighting one bit!!!! I am absolutely furious!!!!! I don't know what to do!!! The cover is made apparently by Cover Craft which is a big name company and again this was the outdoor cover. I googled this and some people say it could be moisture in the clear coat that sunlight may take it away? but I am having doubts! It did rain last night and early this morning but when I took the cover off everything was dry! $450 down the drain as I will never put that thing back on my car!! I just don't know what to do!!!! ANY HELP is appreciated. Attached are pics when it was off when it was still a little light out, then some others I just took with the flash on, It looks like someone had say for an example newspaper on there hands and touched it and left marks, but these marks do not come out no matter what!!! its hard to capture in pictures, but you can see it here, especially the ones with the flash, it is not dirt you see, that is the stains the car is clean.

Did it rain or do you have a lot of moisture? Do not do anything else to the paint, call the dealer if this is a GM product. You need too find the best detail shop in your market to look at the paint and make an assessment. Good luck, that is a special color and car covers have dyes in them and the sun & moister could have baked it into your paint that unfortunately is still very new. Not a car cover fan I think they cause more damage than not having one at all.

As far as I understand we are not supposed to put a car cover on a new car until the paint is fully cured. That is at least a month as far as I have read.
You are better leaving it outside without a cover. I have heard of this happening to the clear if the cover does not breathe but that takes time. If the stains are black something must have bled out of the cover. That really sucks about your paint. Sorry to hear.

You might have to do paint correction at this point. That might help. I would talk to a local reputable shop who does paint correction/ceramic coating/ppf to see if they can help in any way.

I was told not to put any car covers on my Corvette when it was new for this reason. My salesmen was told by the body shop manager that new cars fresh off the assembly line should not be covered for a couple months.

Check out Rick Conti on YouTube under “do not do this with your Corvette cover”.
Thr reason you can’t get rid of the staining is because it’s under your clear coat now.

They are covered when they leave the factory by white covers. The cars are exposed to elements during shipping.

Absolutely no on car covers at all, especially outside. Unless they're perfectly clean (and even then) any movement from wind makes the cover a giant dry abrasive cloth that is not micro fiber. Must be dye that transferred, sorry to see this on a beautiful new car.

The white covers from the factory are much different and they allow the paint to breath. I’m no expert or claim to know the reasoning behind not putting a car cover on new painted cars. I’m just passing on what I was told by the experts.

I had a similar problem on my 2011 Inferno Orange C6 convertible. The rear roof seal stained the paint/clearcoat where it contacted the back deck paint. I searched it at the time and found that earlier models did this and some owners had the deck repainted. I tried several cleaning and polishing products but nothing ever took it all off so eventually just I ignored it. Unfortunately yours looks more obvious and if leaving it out in the sun doesn't help then I would be contacting the manufacturer and screaming. Maybe you will get some compensation. Good luck.

Depends when the buyer receives the car. When a newly built car comes from the factory and is picked up by the buyer there is not enough time for the paint to cure properly. My car was built on a Friday and I picked it up the following Wednesday. I really feel that the salesman need to inform buyers about this when they take delivery. The reason I was informed was because I picked my car up in October and was warned that if I was going to cover it for Winter storage I should wait till the end of December.
