Here are images of my "fix" using 3/32" wire rope and the corresponding sized compression sleeves, all available at any hardware store. I used a hammer (against my vise anvil) on the compression sleeves. Also, please not that with this system there is no need to remove the interior trim panel. Also, a smaller carabiner could be employed.

chain is totally inside frunk. Doesn’t cross the seal. I’m not the least bit concerned that my attach points will snap

I don't know if your pictures were there (updated) when I posted, but being totally inside, it will do no damage - I deleted post. You can keep yours if you wish, But I do not know how strong the net attachment point is. Didn't remove and check. I' going with the wire cable fix. I wonder if anyone on the GM design teams had a discussion like these threads - probably not.

Let’s all hope that none of our contraptions are a permanent fix. They are a good insurance policy though while hopefully GM comes up with an appropriate fix. I do feel it’s probably user error however I think that error could happen to any of us.

Laughing stock.
I wonder how many other car manufacturers make their customers invent their own safety systems for their cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, PORSCHE?

I would be shocked if Porsche owners who went out to buy a new car would do the same redneck stuff.

Hood pins. Better than rope

No. You can press the button on the fob 1,000 times if you want. If the car isn't in park that button won't open the trunk. This is a flaw in the design or in the software, not a user error.
#73
Nope. The software patch is totally unrelated to this issue.

What is 'telling' the hood to open ?

‘If GM knows , they’ll never tell. They may have a recall some day for it but won’t give details on why it happens. I’m sure that almost every time a hood pops open, the owner takes the car to the dealership to have it checked out, a least I hope they do. Every dealership that has a car brought in for service has to report it to GM so that’s the only place where a total number can be found. Good luck getting that information. GM’s not the only one that doesn’t like bad press.
