Thanks for the pics! My plan is a variation of yours, still using 3/32" wire rope and carabiner, but not having access to a car I could only guess for some of my plans. These helped a lot.

Eagle3SH, could you show pictures of attachment at top and bottom of the yellow chain. When hood is closed does chain hang inside the frunk?
Thanks

chain is totally inside frunk. Doesn’t cross the seal. I’m not the least bit concerned that my attach points will snap

Start with two 12" lengths as it gives you more leverage to pull the loops tight within the compression sleeves. I finished mine at approximately 5" each. For a clean look, and less chance of getting pricked by a stray wire end, I cut off the remainder wire rope hanging out of the compression sleeve using a Dremel cut-off wheel.

I don't know if your pictures were there (updated) when I posted, but being totally inside, it will do no damage - I deleted post. You can keep yours if you wish, But I do not know how strong the net attachment point is. Didn't remove and check. I' going with the wire cable fix. I wonder if anyone on the GM design teams had a discussion like these threads - probably not.

Let’s all hope that none of our contraptions are a permanent fix. They are a good insurance policy though while hopefully GM comes up with an appropriate fix. I do feel it’s probably user error however I think that error could happen to any of us.

Laughing stock.

I wonder how many other car manufacturers make their customers invent their own safety systems for their cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, PORSCHE?

But the owners have no issues with it. GM will see this thread and see how everyone is fixing their cars and are ok with it. The fix will be a key chain sent to all owners to attach to latch and hood. Everyone on here will be totally fine with it. GM will be laughing in the meeting room, we have the best customers. Instead of the owners bringing in the car to the dealer to get it fixed they fix themselves.

I would be shocked if Porsche owners who went out to buy a new car would do the same redneck stuff.

Hood pins. Better than rope

No. You can press the button on the fob 1,000 times if you want. If the car isn't in park that button won't open the trunk. This is a flaw in the design or in the software, not a user error.

Nope. The software patch is totally unrelated to this issue.

The two cargo net holders studs in the front are attached to the plastic trunk tub, they will hold nothing.

Yes that workaround in the video looks pretty simple and works just like a safety latch. Gotta get more info on how he rigged it up.

From what I have read you are correct regarding primary design and function. However, something is telling the hood to open. Could it be the fob buttons pressed in a certain sequence or combination override the safety ?

What is 'telling' the hood to open ?

‘If GM knows , they’ll never tell. They may have a recall some day for it but won’t give details on why it happens. I’m sure that almost every time a hood pops open, the owner takes the car to the dealership to have it checked out, a least I hope they do. Every dealership that has a car brought in for service has to report it to GM so that’s the only place where a total number can be found. Good luck getting that information. GM’s not the only one that doesn’t like bad press.
