3M has a product called Bray. It looks like it tears off after 6 months to reveal a second, third or 4th layer. Differing options. I hear it’s difficult to install because it’s 20mils thick. I’m going to have the chance to see one next week. If I remember I’ll report back.

Looking at this now for my daily driver as the windshield now needs replaced as I got caught behind a gravel hauler dropping stones at highway speed. Thanks goodness I had Paint PPF applied to the nose of my ride as it saved the paint!
I see that windshield PPF installers can be difficult to locate but I see that Ziebart is now offering the service but no details as to the product(s) they use...Lets see, I have a request for estimate with them now for my daily driver....
Cheers,
Goose

did it to my C7. it's called clearplex. amazing to me you can't tell it's there. $400 installed. and not worrying about some monkey tearing my A pillars apart to replace such an important and structural portion of these vehicles is practically priceless. after watching my 16 C7 windshield become sandblasted after 8500 miles i made sure my new one would be protected and figure i will just pay another 4 or 500 whatever it is when that happens, to have another layer installed. clear glass is important to me,

A few high end vehicles are being fitted with gorilla glass which resists chips better than regular laminated windshields. Its used on the more expensive smart phones. My strategy on the highway is to never stay behind any truck, tractor trailer or especially dump trucks. Especially if they're missing a mud flap. On an interstate if the truck is in the left lane , I'll get over to the right lane as quickly as possible. Let one car get between you and the truck and at least you'll have a car blocking you that will take the hit from stones and pebbles. Then of course when the truck gets out of the left lane , get around him quickly . It's worked for me very well as I travel from NY to Florida several times a year. (Knock on wood)

It sucks ... But the sooner you get that first nick/ding out of the way...the more you will be able to enjoy your car...jmho
