C8 v Supra, test drive and conclusion...
I took a test drive today in a 2021 Toyota Supra. Here's a few of my comparisons to the C8:
Pros
1. It handles well, has good pickup and has a nice retro look to it.
2. It's not hard to find the BMW branding... Just raise the engine lid and you can find BMW brands all over the engine.
3. Not that keen on the BMW shifter, however my guess is you'd get used to it after awhile.
4. The suspension felt easy on the back. Would make a nice touring car with some caveats...
Cons
1. I don't know what ruler Toyota used when they measured the interior specs, however I've sat in a C8 and now that I've driven the 2021 Supra the only conclusion I can come to is that some of these spec don't jive. I'm 6'1" and about 250 lbs on a dry day. In the C8 i had to move the seat up a bit to get a comfortable pedal feel. In the Supra I had to raise the back of the seat to vertical and then move it all the way back and still felt cramped in the leg room department. The head and shoulder room also felt cramped. I asked the 6'6" linebacker salesman if he'd like to try and get into it and his reply was "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" The C8 felt absolutely spacious compared to the Supra! I felt a little sore after squeezing into the Supra after a 15 minute test drive. The required seat position pushed my head forward which is a really uncomfortable feeling.
Supra Interior Specs
Head room — front/rear (in.) 38.3
Shoulder room — front/rear (in.) 54.4
Leg room — front/rear (in.) 42.2
C8 Interior Specs
Front Head Room 37.90 in
Front Shoulder Room 54.40 in
Front Leg Room 42.80 in
2. Here's the absolute Supra deal killer... The top of the driver door sill was level with my eyes. In order to ingress or egress the vehicle I almost had to tilt my head at a right angle in order to not hit my head! My wife rode along as a passenger and had no problems entering or exiting the vehicle at 5'5".
3. The trunk opening is just downright weird. I think you'd be able to get two carry on suitcases in the trunk if you angle them right. Getting a full size suit case would be difficult at best. I also don't like the fact that you don't really have a trunk since the hatch compartment is basically part of the cabin. You can reach back and touch the inside of the back hatch. The two large woofers might also present a storage problem or you might possibly damage them if you're not careful.
4. The Supra uses a torque converter unlike the C8 with its dual clutch transmission. I can't do a direct comparison of the shift feel of the C8 versus the Supra since I haven't driven a C8, but my guess is that the C8 shift when accelerating has to have a crisper feel to it. During acceleration the Supra transmission felt like it had a sloppy lag to it when it downshifted. Almost felt like I was driving my 1970's Chevy Nova. I've never owned a Corvette with an automatic transmission and both my C5 and C6 were manual transmissions so it's hard to make a comparison to those older manual Corvettes and the Supra. I can however say that I much prefer the feel of my C5 and C6 manuals over the automatic Supra.
So in conclusion: The Supra looks nice, rides nice but just doesn't have the muscle feel and sound of the C8. It accelerates nicely, but almost has a sort of sedan type feel to it, minus the room of a sedan. Just not my kind of sports car. I like the sound of the C8 roar compared to the purring sound of the turbo charged Supra. If you're in a hurry and are short I'd guess that the Supra might be a good fit for you. I myself am going to be patient and wait for my HTC 2021 C8.
PS: I did take delivery of my 2020 C8 Coupe today.... Here a pic! Looks just like the 2021 HTC, minus the moving roof... lol

I think if I were going to buy a Toyota sport coupe, it would be the Lexus LCF. You can find them CPO for about the same price as a loaded Supra. I think that would be a more appropriate comparison to the C8.

Maybe? I can't say since I've never ridden in the Lexus. I've seen a lot of Supra v C8 Youtube videos that compared the two favorably. After driving the Supra today I have to give it an overall thumbs down. I just wasn't impressed.

The Supra does not "look nice"
Sorry!
Its the AZTEK of sports cars. Google Supra prototype and see what it was supposed to look like.

Something's not right. The specs are virtually identical in driver seating room. As far as a Ricer vs a C8? Apples and Oranges. You might want to do a Tracking comparison with results between the two. That's what really counts in sports cars.

Thanks for the comparison no one asked for lol. That car is not in Corvette's league! If that car is $50K then the Corvette should be minimum $100K and that is being modest!!

Why all the posts comparing the C8 to whatever else. Are we trying to justify our purchase? You want a Corvette get one, don't worry bout what else could be faster/slower/more expensive/less expensive.

The Supra looks ok to me, but that's strictly personal opinion. Beauty in the eye of the beholder. Forgot about the speed limiter. I think they added about 35 hp to the 2021. Not sure how they added the hp, but I saw a head to head 0-60 and the additional hp didn't appear to make a difference. Today's Supra test drive was a good learning experience for me. I heard a lot about the Supra, good and bad, and now that I've driven one I believe the bad outweighs the good.

Thanks for the review. Saw a used 2020 Supra on a dealer lot yesterday. No test drive taken, but I have mixed feelings on the overall looks of the car. Would like to drive one some day just to see what it is like.

It has 450 hp. Dynos have already confirmed the number. A 911 is ugly. 0-60, per Toyota is 3.9 seconds. The 2021 is RATED at 382hp. There is no comparison between a 2020, and a 2021 Supra. We just got a 21 Tuesday. Rides better, has more power, etc.

I agree, the 911 is ugly. The Supra is uglier.
And MotorTrend said the C8 dynoed at 600+ hp. Dynos can lie depending on the knowledge of the operator.
