I don't think it is fair for GM to build 2020 C8s that deliver in 2021

In reality, a 2020 will be a year old the day the first 2021 production cars roll off the line, regardless of when that date is, August or November. It will be a used car and a depreciating asset with the value set by the used car market. Only handful of buyers of any new model year can be the “first on their block” to own a new model. The rest of the buyers get a car from that model year.
Extending the model year into October is not what GM wants to do, but with so many orders for the 2020 “first year” model, and unprecedented production interruptions, they are trying to appease buyers who are clambering for that model. They could have just cancelled out the infilled 2020 orders, established higher prices for the 2021, accepted the 2021 orders dealers have already taken deposits for, and began production in August as originally planned, but... it is what it is.
No, life ain’t fair, but in the scheme of life this far in 2020, it’s just a car.

2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I thought that I read that happened in the late 60's/early 70's due to a GM labor stoppage/strike? Labor dispute in 1969 shortened the 1970 Corvette production time..... I believe.

They picked November 23 as the beginning of MY 2021 for good reason. It likely was the latest date they could assure that MY 2020 cars were built could get shipped by rail for delivery before 12/31/2020. According to a Facebook post they built 84 cars yesterday on one shift. They need to average just over 150 cars per day to build all MY 2020’s by November 20th. My guess is a few people’s March allocated cars slip to MY 2021 builds. I am in the March allocation, if I slipped a bit to get a MY 2021 it would fine with me.

If the start of production for 2021 C8s is Nov. 23, it pretty safe to assume 2020 production will be up to or close to that date. If someone's C8 is built the week Nov. 16, and is shipped by rail to the West Coast, it is not likely to reach the dealer until early to mid-January 2021, especially when you consider holiday slowdowns. I don't think it is fair for GM to ship someone a 2020 car, and have it arrive at the dealer in 2021, especially since they have likely waited a year and a half for that car. I am not blaming GM for the UAW strike or COVID-19. I just don't think they are handling the situation in way that is fair to the customer.
What should be done, is all 2020 orders that can't be built by September 1 be converted to 2021 orders with price protection. The base car price hasn't changed, so it would be price protection just on options. They have implemented price protection for orders entered into the system in the past, so this is nothing new.
They should open up the order system for converted 2021 orders, and allow people to adjust their options and colors. Again, it will have been a year and a half for those folks by the time they get their C8.
I think this could be handled a lot better and more fairly. Feel free to comment below.

I don't think that is true (but I'm certainly not an expert on this). The model year is built into the VIN and I think there are regulations that control when you can call it a certain MY in relation to when it is built. I could see manufacturers playing a game where they call a car an earlier model year to get out of safety, emissions, etc. regulations.
"m) Model year means the year used to designate a discrete vehicle model, irrespective of the calendar year in which the vehicle was actually produced, provided that the production period does not exceed 24 months."
As I read that, the current C8 can be designated a 2020 Model from the start date for 2 years!
However it would require a lawyer to read the many thousand page document! Thank goodness for "word search!"
That's the problem with the country, have far too many Lawyers (as well as politicians who are also Lawyers, so include all those!) Can't believe all the fine details in that VIN document. I'm sure there were also many Bureaucratizes and Lobbyists involved!
Need about 10% of all those types in DC (except Lobbyists should not be allowed!)

Remember 1983?
Let's just cancel the 2021 MY and continue to finish out all of the 2020 MY orders. Then GM and everything will be on schedule finally. Everyone happy now?

I totally agree with you. MichaelA .If GM lets us convert over to 2021 we still have more waiting to do at status 1100. I was 8 months at 1100 before my order got an allocation. Then when it did , BGA closed down 5 days later..Waiting is waiting,..but I think the September idea is sound.
I should have known that date of Friday the 13th was bad luck.
All kidding aside, yes, it sucks that we have to wait that late for our cars, but I'm also looking at the bright side...I'll have a Long Beach Red Corvette, and it's the one of the rarest colors for 2020...add the fact that it's discontinued for 2021 (so is blade silver, but it has also more build numbers), I'll have the rarest color C8 ..unless nobody buys Zeus Bronze or Accelerate yellow in 2021 and beyond, lol.

Looks like the new Crystal Red Metallic will be like the other Vibrant, Flashy colors they are offering. Might be OK if it was a small "cute" Bug-Eyed Sprint BUT it's a very big car! IMO, darker colors look better on the C8. Living in the Sunny South and not a fan of Blue anything, my choices, IF pushed to a 2021 will be Shadow Gray OR Zeus Bronze. Gray is similar to Black re sun affects. If they offered Green would get that but bet it would be a "Flashy Safety Vest Green!" It would be Zeus Brown if I had to decide now.
I'm about midway in my dealers allocation and at 3000 so hopefully will be OK- only time will tell.

I'll bet your company sets rules on things also and I'll bet they care about the bottom line!....... Maybe, I wouldn't think those rules were fair to me, would you care? You have the choice to buy or not.
