Default My 2020 C8 Corvette review with pics!

Hi Corvette Enthusiasts,

I ordered my C8 very early and I feel lucky I have her now. The following is my humble opinion only.

Some background information. I own a base 2020 Arctic White C8 (non-Z51) with body-colored accents. It is the base model because I so dislike the look of the Z51 spoiler. I feel that the spoiler breaks up the sleek italian-like (think Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini) lines of the C8 for me. I do have alot of optional equipment which brought the price up to a staggering 80K . I have test-driven the Huracan and the Mclaren 570s with the idea of purchasing one of them. I bought the C8 instead and I am so glad I did. I have owned an Acura NSX and a Jaguar F-Type and both cars were very good but the C8 is excellent. I have never raced my cars but I do daily drive them. I just like to go fast and on rails in a supercar when the road conditions permit and in this the C8 excels.

The memory front-end lift is brilliant. Don't have to worry about scraping anymore. It's so cool when I drive up to my driveway and the car lifts before I reach the driveway. Once you set it by pressing the buttons, it will remember forever. This is a supercar but does not have the usual supercar bravado name like Ferrari and Lamborghini and Mclaren. Or their initial relatively high price tag and high cost of maintainence. The C8 safety equipment will keep you safe and make you feel secure. Rear end sensors and blind-sport monitoring warn you of possible trouble. The camera rear view mirror is brilliant but can have a problem with glare. If you see glare, just tilt the mirror up a fraction or down and it will go away. When I look at distant objects out from the windshield and then look back at the rear-view mirror, sometimes my eyes have to refocus on the nearness of the image on the mirror. This takes fractions of a second due to the fine muscles of my eye not adjusting as quickly as they did when I was younger. This was annoying at first but now that I understand what is happening, I am used to it and I can refocus on the image of the camera mirror without any issues. The red engine cover looks bad-***, eons better than the black cover, especially since I have red brake calipers and red and black two-tone GT2 seats with napa leather. The 495 hp and 460 lb ft torque is more than enough for me. The base standard suspension rides like the C8 is on rails. It is so easy to rip on freeway on-ramps and in straight-lines that I always have that goofy smile on my face when I drive her. I love the fact that you can set her up so the mirrors automatically fold in and the door locks when you turn off and exit your car with your keys. I love the fact that the outside mirrors tilt down when you reverse giving you a curb-view so you can avoid wheel rash. I love the fact you can program your seats to go all the way back when you shut off the engine so ingress and egress are easy. Did I mention memory everything (ie seats, mirrors, front-end lift)? I love how the front camera view will prevent you from front-end rash. I love how everything is within easy reach when I drive her. The passenger side is very comfortable. My wife fell asleep in her seat when I was driving the 150 miles home from the dealer. She said the C8 (which was in tour-mode) rode smoother than my 2016 Jaguar F-type. The DCT is smooth and shifts instantaneously. I did not experience any engine or gear shudder at low speeds. I did not experience what some owners have reported as my interior leather stitching was straight and even and my panel gaps were consistent and narrow. So I guess I got a high quality and well built C8! I joined my friends for coffee at Starbucks. Funny how my C8 received more looks and questions than my friends' Ferrari 488 and Mclaren 600 LT from the passerbys. NO KIDDING! Maybe since so few C8s are around? In any case, the vast majority of their comments were positive. You know I have a feeling that many people who dislike the C8s looks have not even seen the C8 in person! Just like the C7, pictures do not do the C8 justice! I am amazed on how many looks and/or questions I get from people at parking lots and gas stations. I even have drivers at my side or behind or in front taking pictures or videos of my car on the freeway. My sister said this is her favorite out of all my cars. She also asked me to leave her the car in my will. So did my brother and a best friend. Seriously! And I don't think they were kidding. I use the C8s android auto to link to my cell phone where I use 'OK Google' command to make and answer phone calls hands-free. I use Spotify to play music hands-free. Here are some pictures because if no pictures, it never happened. One word of advice, GET ONE! Best priced supercar ever without the supercar price tag, maintenance or insurance costs!

Suggestion, here is a picture of how I mount my cell phone in the car. Just take one of those small circular magnets with adhesive on one side and attach it to the center console. The place a thin metal plate in between your cell phone and its cover. The phone sticks to the console magnet. It rests on its side and against the center arm-rest. It is accessible and is held securely in place. I tried using the weathertech cell phone cup holder and its works well but it takes up one of your cup holder spots (not good if you have a significant other who rides with you). I also looked at air vent and all kinds of other phone mount solutions. If you check, you will find very few strategic locations to logically place your cell phone without disrupting the use or looks of your fighter pilot seat. I think my solution may be a good one for others to try (see pic). It is a KISS solution and securely holds the phone in place without taking up a lot of space. Short cable easily runs from jack under armrest to phone.

I showed my brother the car and took him out for a spin. He is a sports car enthusiast and has a friend who is a retired professional race car driver. My brother knows a lot about cars and how to drive them. He can drive fast and safe. Funny thing is that he is usually not a back-seat driver but when he rode along with me on his first ride, he cautioned me about everything in his neighborhood that could possible damage the car. He was more concerned about the car than I was which was not normal. He was making me drive and treat the car like the little special thing she is. As he drove the car himself he even respected the speed limits and slowed way down for every speed bump and bad crack in the road. He avoided all road gravel so as not to damage the C8 in any way. If you knew my brother you would know that this was him showing high respect for the princess C8 with its supercar looks.

Lastly, is the C8 a supercar? In exclusivity ... no. In high price tag ... no. In hand-built .... no. In exterior looks ... 90% yes. In interior looks ... yes. In safety features ... surpasses many supercars. In quality ... yes. In high-cost maintenance ... no. In high-cost of ownership ... no. In handling ... yes. In hp ... 80% yes (but higher hp versions to come will kick butt on those higher hp italian and english makes)! IMHO the C8 IS A SUPERCAR except for high price of ownership. Remember I could have purchased a Mclaren 570s or a Lamborghini Huracan but I purchased the C8 instead. It is because I could no longer justify for myself the high price of the other exotics. Sorry, they are not worth the higher price to me anymore even if they are rare and exclusive. The value proposition of the C8 and its ability to be daily driven was echoed by my friends who are exotic car owners. If you missed what I said ... IT IS A GREAT CAR! ENJOY YOURS! For me, taking everything into consideration, it's the C8 hands down. I am a very happy fella. Enuff said!

The C8 and I having Starbucks coffee with friends. They own the Ferrari 488 and the Mclaren 600 LT. They both wanted to see the new C8.

Arctic white C8 is at home here.

Arctic white C8 at the supermarket just before I was approached by several people asking to take pictures of her.

A convenient and secure spot for you to mount your cell phone. A KISS solution. Note short cable from under armrest to phone.

Hope you enjoyed the story and the pictures. All the Best to You Corvette Enthusiasts
-Luc

Congrats! I too think that the Z51 spoiler kills the look of the car somewhat. It looks sexier and more sophisticated without it imo.

Agreed. That's why I'm planning on removing mine as soon as it arrives.

Great review, and very entertaining! I hope you live a long life, because I could see some sort of estate dispute brewing. LOL.
Enjoy your new C8!

I'm curious why you don't use the wireless phone holder between the rear of the seats? I do like the red phone card though.

Enthusiasts, If I am incorrect here, please correct me, thank you! The cell phone holder between the seats holds your phone and wirelessly charges it. However, as far as I can tell, you need a cable connection between your phone and your car's usb port for android auto to work with your phone's google assistant. As far as I can tell, using bluetooth alone will not work. I heard that android auto (and apple carplay) is targeted to work wirelessly (bluetooth) for 2021 models. If this is so, perhaps there will be a car application refresh cycle to update our software so it will work for 2020 models too.

I believe all that is correct. I think he was just wondering why you didn’t just slide your phone into the wireless charging slot between the seats after connecting the usb cable. Just personal preference I suppose but that’s what I plan to do.

Perhaps he doesn't have a phone that is capable of a wireless charge....I, for one, do not. Still using an iPhone 7.

Can never go wrong with white.

Congrats.

Is this your first Corvette?

Not for nothing, it looks better than the 488, just saying.

In high price tag ... no. In exterior looks ... 90% yes.
Perfect.

When I saw one the other day, I was like, what is that? I thought it was a Mclaren until I drove around and saw "CORVETTE".

Its a supercar in terms of its appearance and performance.

Exclusivity may be a big one for some.

The one that I saw the other day, has the spoiler. I was looking at it and wasnt sure how I felt about it. Reading your post, I see that there are others who simply dont like it.

Yes, this is my first Corvette! I drive her every chance I get to max the enjoyment factor! Due to unfortunate circumstances, the C8 is one of the most exclusive supercars with only 2800 or so on the road right now . I think this is just another reason why she gets so many looks. Most know what she is when she is parked (duh corvette emblem on her butt) but some of those who walk up often ask Ferrari? Mclaren ? This morning, at the golf range, a golfer pulls up in a golf cart and says to his friend who is behind me ... I can see you driving in that !

I hope you all get your C8s soon,
Luc
