Wouldn't it be nice to have web cams in the roll test area and in the Marriage area so owners could go on line and see the car roll off the line? All they would have to do is tape the last 6 of the vin somewhere visible and that would be it.
Don't say its for workers privacy issues because today there are cameras everywhere even at a McDonalds drive through.

they should definitely give their competitors a chance to see the manufacturing process first hand

Imagine if the camera went down, how many phone calls they would get from people complaining. Like when NCM took theirs down for a while.

I suppose it's because they are building cars and the spoiled rotten brats that are crying about where's my new toy don't really need to see it being built. Go find a group of hippies and form a circle and sing kum-ba-yah will you.

You don't need an MBA to know that's a great idea.

I like this idea, but for a different reason. A camera at every work station (only visible to GM) would allow GM to pinpoint UAW worker sabotage or unskilled/improper installation (and yes there is a history of that with UAW workers) when assembling the vehicles, which is what plagues many American cars.

Problem is, the UAW would never agree to it.

This is a catastrophically bad idea. People scratch their *** and pick their nose, it's just life as humans. As soon as the first one is caught on video, it would turn into a social media frenzy about how Corvette assembly people are nose pickers or *** scratchers. They wouldn't point out that they do the same along with everyone else on earth, but no, it's look at the Corvette cretin.

One of the reasons Toyota picked the Fremont plant to work with was the UAW was the worst in the entire company. Lots of insane things, including sabotage of cars, happened. It's well documented.

Nothing they are doing is special, especially during final assembly. Maybe in component or sub-assembly manufacturing, but cross pollination of methods between companies is pretty common in manufacturing. Process for fabrication or working with special materials can be protected, especially designs are, but not assembly processes.

Like Corvette 'fans' need something else to bitch and nit-pick about.

"Hey, did you guys see that oaf taking #3422 off the line? He didn't even kick his shoes off first, and it looks like he slammed the door. I'd never spend eighty grand on a car that was abused that way".
