Hopefully they’re ok and no one was injured

Happens all too often with inexperienced owners (among others) and their first "high-powered" car.

Been there done that ! Totaled my '08 Dodge Viper with about 500 miles on it. No nanny controls on those cars and 600 HP was not a good combo. So far so good in my C7ZR1 and planning to add a C8 soon.

Dealers don't have floor stock for someone to test drive. Nor, would they let someone do so at this point in time even if they had an open C8

They did get a bad rap. I like them. Spent 3 track seasons in one. Lap times damn near as quick as my Gen 5 ACR-E. My old C7GS lurking in the back ground. Fun car too!

Too bad about the C8 in the OP. All high performance cars require thoughtful respect.
