WOW...finally saw a C8

When the 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder came out, many people who wanted to see one couldn't because Toyota only imported 5,000 a year. So over the five years they imported them, there were only 25,000 in the entire country. It took me three months to finally see one in the San Francisco Bay Area at a dealer. I jumped on it that second and bought it. It was about six months before I saw another one on the street. On our forum site, we had a thread just like this one where people would say "Wow... I finally saw a MR2 Spyder". Pretty cool having a car that most heard of but never saw. It was annoying that everyone crowed around the car and taking pictures. Luckily I was never involved in a scandal where I parked it in a handicapped spot.

Coming home from work this morning and on Hyway 4 near Bay Point/Pittsburg I spotted an Orange C8 with a body color high wing heading west. It has a road presence that pictures don't do it justice. It probably came from the Discovery Bay Area as there are a lot of Vettes in that community.
Congrats to all those who got their C8s. I'm in love and makes most other vettes look dated, even more so my 86 C4.
Sorry no pictures.

I saw one last week for the first time. I was sitting about 150' back from a busy six lane road and saw it comming. Traffic on the road moves at about 60, so there was not a lot of time to look close at it.
Ive been around for a very long time, bought my first car magazine in 1965. I'm one of those people that can tell a 65 Mustang from a 66 despite very minor differences. With that in mind, here is my take.
At first glance my brain said "McLaren, Ferrari....oh wait, it's a C8". The car had a high wing and stripes. Seeing it in person confirmed what I have thought from seeing a thousand pictures over the past year. It's styling is way too busy. A trait that the C7 started. GM cannot let the shape speak for itself on Corvettes any more.
While riding home (was on a motorcycle) one thing hit me. In nearly 70 years of Corvettes, this is the first one that non-car people will not know what it is based upon looks. Literally everyone in America....maybe even the world can look at any other generation Corvette and know without even thinking about it that it's a Corvette. That will not be so with the C8. That is just an observation, not a point of argument.
Right now I'm in the camp that I think the C7 (without the stupidly large rear spoiler) is a better looking car. I don't think the C8 is ugly, and I certainly understand the appeal to it. If it offered a manual, and I did not have three motorcycles that I ride all the time, I still would buy one. But as it is, it's a car that I respect what they have done, but I don't lust after owning one.

However i think most car people know what it is and quite like it. I need to see more of them in person to completely be sold, but initial pictures did NOT do this one justice, in person it is way more exotic and a lot more WOW factor

I saw my first C8 out on the road about three weeks ago. Certainly has a cool presence.

I will agree partially to the extent that if a person didn't know what they were looking at the car doesn't automatically scream "corvette"

I know what the C8 is, so I know it is a Corvette, but it just looks like a clone of an Italian exotic. If it was smaller, I would swear it was a Chinese knockoff of a McLaren. I would take a C8 over a C7 any day.

The tail lights still bug me but overall I really like it. I'm just a car guy, not a Corvette purist. When I see others complaining it looks like a NSX or Ferrari, I'm like yeah that's why it looks good. Now get rid of the Camaro tail lights.

I have the same opinion. Great car, and styling is very subjective, but both C7 and C8 look pretty spastic to me, like a Ferrari stuck a fork in the electrical outlet. Not bad looking, but could be improved by simplification & letting the overall shape do the talking. It will not go down in history as a 'beautiful' car.

You never forget the first one you see. I remember the first C7 I saw. First C8 was last week, in traffic. Both torch red (or the like). But you definitely need to see in person.

I haven't been driving much, most due to "Stay Home' orders and not attending Cars and Coffee and other events I'd like to. Every time I go out people ask if they can take a loot at the car. I pop the trunk and let them get a close look at the engine. I keep forgetting that most people have never seen one in person. It's still very much a unicorn car and mine being Sebring Orange definitely gets a lot of attention. My favorite part of the car has to be the rear quarters. It has hips and a beautiful curve where the quarter merges into the roof line. So sexy.

Saw my first one in Reno today. Really is pretty cool. Wasn't a fan of the wing though, are they optional or standard? Personally would like a tail spoiler better. Overall I liked it.

Melting Slicks
I saw one last Sunday. I was out for a walk and a few blocks from my house I saw one pass by from behind so I got a good look at the back end. Not as big as I thought it would be, from my vantage point. It's funny that my 1st thought was "I wonder how much over sticker thy guy paid"
