Many expect the new Corvette to slay much more expensive supercars, but this comparison virtually proves it.

The Car and Driver article this is based on says no such thing. It's like the writer read the article and then made it their own clickbait headline.

From the OP's article:
"By the end of the quarter-mile, however, the Porsche clocks a slightly better 10.9-second run compared to the C8's 11.2. The 911 is also much faster in 60-120 mph acceleration, doing the deed in 6.5 seconds compared to 7.9 for the Corvette. Using this data, C&D reckons that the Porsche has an advantage coming out of corners on the track.
Porsche's purpose-built track machine also holds an advantage in terms of grip, recording 1.24 g's on the skidpad compared to the Z51 Corvette's 1.03. Some of that can be attributed to tires, as the 911 wears Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs, which are much sticker than the C8's Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. The Porsche also has superior stopping power, coming to a halt from 70 mph in 128 feet versus the Corvette's required distance of 149 feet"
But other than those . . errr minor aspects, yeah pretty much equal.
I'm not much of a Porsche fan. Never warmed to the styling of them. But respect the performance they can put out. If the C8 model line gets built out, it'll be a stout line-up.

Why can't the C8 just be what it is. These posts are silly

Who is this Curated Content Editor and is he/she associated with the Forum? If so, why does the Forum allow him/her to post silliness. I love my C8. A GT3 RS it is NOT!

In the hands of pro drivers? Absolutely not.
In the hands of weekend trackday enthusiasts? Absolutely yes.

Try my little experiment... drive a GT3 RS and a C8 back to back and report back. They are different... the RS is a much more focused track weapon (and way less livable day-to-day) and corners harder, has more power, is lighter, massive brakes, stiffer chassis... there is just no way a C8 stays with a GT3 RS with similar drivers. I expect I will not say the same thing about the Z06 but for the Z51, there is no way it keeps up with a GT3 RS. The C8 might be close ish to a GT3... not the RS.

"Theoretically"... with a thermonuclear skateboard I could too; for an instant.

If they are similarly skilled weekend track enthusiasts, the GT3 RS is still faster. The only way the GT3 RS isn't faster is if the C8 driver is more skilled.

I believe that's because there is such a big gap in skill level at a HPDE weekend. Even in similar run groups.

I think that gets away from the point though. In the novice run groups, you may see a Honda Civic Si run down a McLaren 720S. That doesn't mean that the Civic is faster than the 720S. It just means that there is a much better driver in the Honda.

"Theoretically" as in the track is actually a cliff and you push both off. They will both fall at 9.8 m/s*s. Otherwise the GT3-Rs will destroy the Z51 C8. I mean, I want the corvette to be as good or better. But as they say "Wish in one hand, crap in the other and see which one gets filled first!"

The GT3RS limit is much faster than the C8, but you will see them running similar lap times in the real world when non pros are driving is all I'm saying.

since the dawn of time (well since the Corvette debuted) everyone compares sports cars to Corvettes, it is what it is. When you're the best at what you do (providing the best all around sports car for the money in the Corvette's case), people will always compare everything else to you.
Think of it as a compliment, no one is comparing Mustangs (I love Mustangs) to Porsches.

Melting Slicks
The driver is the most important element.
So what is the cost per lap to operate the C8 vs. the GT3 RS....?
And how available are they vs. the Corvette.
Lastly, who cares? If you bring a C8 to track day, that’s your $80,000 admission ticket. You stuff it into a $180,000 GT3 RS during a red mist episode and you can simply run away or repair or purchase that car to boot! Win-win!
