Default I'm out...

I have cancelled my order. The order was originally placed in September, and never advanced past 1100. Every time I contacted GM, I was told only the Corvette Concierge service could help me - they could not. The Concierge simply told me to speak to the dealer, because only the dealer would know about its allocations. The dealer repeatedly stated it knew nothing about its allocations until it received them, and to speak to GM. Obviously, someone is lying unless allocations mysteriously appear from on high. This frustration occurred well before the strike and the virus. Given the car was meant to celebrate my 50th birthday, only 6 weeks away, I will not have it by then. I'll just keep driving my 2016 Camaro until I find a good one in a lot. The ordering process has only generated a foul experience of obvious deceipt.

And?

Please explain how a shut down of 94% of the country for health reasons is GM's fault. This should be interesting.

Your dealer clearly didn't have an allocation for your order. You should have verified that prior to your order. If you had ordered from a forum dealer you more than likely would have had your car.
As far as other variables, strike, virus, nothing could be done.

When the dealer said that they had no idea about its allocations it also admitted that it had no allocations and could not sell you a car!
Getting out was a wise move and lets not forget the C 8 is a commodity and we can all have one if we wait a while...

The problem that I have with GM is that so many people placed a deposit down on an allocation months before what I'm sure some other people of influence did yet the "celebrities" received their cars first.

From what I have been told, the "celebrities" used a loophole in the order process by selecting the Custom VIN option (RPO PIN Customer VIN ending reservation 1 - This option is subject to restrictions and approval. NOT AVAILABLE on all VINs. Available on SOLD orders only.). This is a $5000 option. You are given available VIN ending numbers to choose from. Select an early VIN, get you car early).

True.

Lie.

The dealer was told how many allocations to expect late last summer. From that, they would have a good idea of roughly how many to expect each consensus cycle. It's true that they don't know the actual number each cycle until they get them, but once they got their first number in the first consensus (back in September), they knew what to expect. They told you that in an attempt to string you along so you wouldn't bail and go someplace else.

WOW!
This is the first time I have ordered a new car to my specs. I admit I had a lot to learn and learned much of it here on this forum. What I didn't do was put down my deposit and wait blindly for 8 months. When I got answers that didn't make sense I pressed the issue until I understood what was going on. I don't have a car yet but like many I am at status 3000. Sorry you didn't get your car for your birthday but sometimes you have to put a little effort into getting what you want.

OP. Just another reason to order a car from Mike Furman @ Criswell.

When you're ready to do this again and not get jerked around? PM him.

Good luck and enjoy what you have. It's only a car. You can buy another one. They'll be making C8's for years.. tens of thousands of them. This launch has bee a cluster (no fault of GMs honestly- union strike and covid 19) but like a bad day, a new one will begin soon enough.

As others said, your dealer sucked. Nothing GM did wrong.

Don't blame you at all. I'd have done the same thing if I was at 1100.

I'm not quite sure that GM has done anything wrong in this case. It is The dealer that you gave your deposit to. At the time of your order the dealer fills in the order on the "Workbench" and should have given you an allocation #. This # is where you are in line at that dealer, given their total allocations for the year. I gave my deposit to MacMulkin Chevrolet on August 4th, 2019. I was # 218 of their 1172 allotments for the year. I took delivery of my C-8 on March 24th 2020. Oh by the way, I am no celebrity. This is the 1st new car I purchased from GM since my 1979 T/A. The whole transaction with MacMulkin from the initial deposit to the delivery was an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend MacMulkin to purchase a Corvette, Very professional staff.

GM sets up the order and allocation system. The dealers are working as agents for GM. In the end the buck stops with GM. They are responsible for the system and their dealers.

American car mfrs. have never really had a good dealer experience, except Saturn (now defunct), at least in my experience.

Lexus has a fantastic experience still, I'm simply not interested in their cars.

The good news is that there are some great Corvette dealerships, many have listed them here... use one of those and be happy.

What is happening in the United States and the world is a really sad. I feel really bad for anyone affected and those that may eventually be. But the OP kind of has a point. GM could give two ***** about you as a Corvette owner prior to the C8. You think they give a **** about your order now? If the OP does not follow through with the purchase someone else will take it now mark up or not. GM is still making money and the President of GM is not worried about a mortgage payment or her next meal. A lot of Chevy dealers are bad. A lot of them are good. Corvettes will always sell. Bigger problems going on other getting a new car. Let's find a way to get through this and in 12-24 months plenty of C8'Ss will be available.

The C8 will be my 6th Vette. Started with a 1988, ordered from a Dealer "made just for me the way I want from Bowling Green." My last 4 bought from a large dealer. My 2008, current Grand Sport and ordered my C8 from Kerbeck because you get very knowledgeable people who give you straight answers. My C8 is also at 3000 as I didn't place my order until after the launch, knew I would not be in the early builds BUT since I have a 2017 Grand Sport don't care.

Frankly, although Kerbeck had a "idea" of their allocations for 2020 (which was GM's best estimate based on production rate build-up and how many they could build by this September) and took orders accordingly. They switched a few months ago to taking orders for 2021s as their estimated 2020 allocations were filled. How were they or GM for that matter to know there would be a long strike and we'd be in this ~2 month (or whatever) production shut down?

Will I get a 2020 or will it be pushed to a 2021? How the heck does anyone know? Que Sera Sera.
