Realistic facts for C8 future production
In reading a number of post on the future for the C-8 (2020-2021) no one has the real facts. That is a real fact..The majority of the people who are writing on this subject are expressing what they want the facts to be but they have no real idea on what the real facts will be.
GM has a demand problem currently but because of the strike and virus they are at this time unable to fill the demand. The first thing we all need to do is thank the medical system which is
doing the very best to fight the virus. Please do not add any political BS to this problem. GM mangers will have to make a decision on how to deal with the production of the 2020 - 2021 model year. If this decision
has been made no one on this forum has any insight into this now. Fact. GM like other companies needs cash now. Fact. If you were the head of GM what would you do? Give us ( forum members) you management decisions you would make to deal with this problem.
You never know that your idea may have some real input to senior GM managers. Let's help GM together. Thanks.

The truth is nobody knows until GM says anything. Till then we have one corner who's more understanding and another who's filled with first world problems such as " i'm mad I can't get my sports car right now" when there are many people dying and losing their jobs...

I would build the 2020 cars until the Christmas vacation. This would solve the problem of all cars in the system at 3000/3400 status. GM could then see how many more of 1100 sold orders could be pulled for production before the end of the time frame. There have been many commits about GM that should cancel the 2020's and just start with the 2021's? That would be a nightmare for GM and the dealers because every order in the GM workbench would have to be canceled and reentered as 2021. So if this were to happen now what do you do with customers at the head of the line for a 21? If you were 1st at a large dealer and they have forty 20 orders canceled now you become 21 on their list.
The best choice for GM is to extend 2020 production until the end of the year. Remember GM builds cars on their time frame, not yours and if you cancel or don't except the car you ordered the dealer can sell it to somebody else immediately because there are buyers waiting for a car they can drive now.

That's not even the sum of it. They will do what they think is best for shareholder value, which often isn't the best. Protecting long term revenue streams is critical but most companies just ignore it for short term results because that's what a lot shareholders think they want.

This. There are more of us still working than not. Unless the auto factories are simply out of supplies, I feel they should still be making cars. I work in a manufacturing environment and we are being smart as we can and taking every precaution but the job goes on. I trust that an assembly line process would be even easier to take those precautions, compared to many other manufacturing jobs. And this is in no way being insensitive to the situation or valuing cars over life.

Once the virus is under control, scrub the factory clean, test everyone at the plant in the morning (with the 15 min test) everyone wears a mask and gloves plus full body clothing. Anyone sneezes, they leave and are tested again. Do it all over again during lunch. GM can't take a long shut down. If this goes into the summer I thing the Corvette AND GM are history. And the UAW strike will be remembered as the beginning and the end of Corvette.

As much as I want cars to be built (I am about 40 vins away from 3800), we need to fight this virus and let things play out. I work on the frontline and it is bad. Also, it can get worse the next second...I am on edge everytime I step into work. I have had to essentially work double time as normal with other staff being quarentined etc. Thus, I see my c8 vette and ongoing production as the light at the end of the tunnel. I used to call the concierge daily for updates but right now...whole different story. Seeing and staying up to date with these forums means that we, as a country, are looking toward getting through this nightmare time of the century. I appreciate this forum in the meantime as a mental break and hope for the months ahead. Would I want to have my car now?...of course. However it is a waste really since I mainly travel to a hospital, get gas/ basic food and spend my free time is with my kids while wearing a mask after I take an hr to clean up. I dont see that changing anytime soon.
My best geuss is by May GM will slowly rotate workers to get some cars built with people volunteering on time and a half pay. Otherwise it would be not only a bad quarter and year but workers may lose jobs or look elsewhere in long run. Who knows ...
This would basically allow them to slowly get through all the 3300s and be ready to retool over late summer for 2021 in early fall.
I did not mean this post to be negative at all but to show how it needs to be put into perspective. I for one see the bigger picture.
Everyone just stay at home and stay safe.

Very sad
I feel bad for the health workers dealing with this crisis and the families with loved ones suffering from this insidious virus!
I feel like I am in a time warp with the C8. Was due for 4/6 TPW after placing order w dealer in 2018. Now no idea what will even happen with car or our country? Trillions in debt being taken out on top of trillion dollars existing debts. Hard to imagine how this all works out well?
One big shame at a time we should have been thrilled to getting a great innovation mid engine Corvette. Here is to it all working out!

and families that will never recover; some of them will go under, too, in a different way.
after all that, ideas for GM will have to come from someone else like GM. it's their biz.
the human toll is too much, doncha' think...

I can see a part time resumption to assemble cars on current parts inventory but supplier chain dependencies and all I'll be surprised (and pleased) if BG returns to normal production by August/September 2020.

I agree 100% and the ONLY was to assure that the UAW workers are safe is to get them back on the assembly line ASAP, because every day out of work is one day closer to financial ruin and eventual divorce, suicide or even murder/suicide out of total financial ruin and despair.
Its just a stronger flu.
Just keep workers with underling heath problems at home.....so that they are not in danger.

Kentucky is projected to peak in covid deaths May 19 ish. Given that, I am guessing the plant opens in June some time.
