DIY engine cover painting
I was planning to order a red engine cover, then I thought it would be a cool & easy project, given that we are all stuck at home these days.
The red color I got is close enough to the valve covers, but slightly shiner. I watch a video on engine cover removal and did it in an afternoon. 2 coats of high heat primer and 3 coats of red. The 1st picture with the cover on the floor shows the true color, in 2nd picture, the color is a bit off, I guess the lighting made it orangish.

Nice work. Looks great. How many clear coats?

Thanks! I didn't put any clear coat. I used Rust-Oleum primer and paint.
Thanks! About 1 hour for covering the chrome/silver inserts with blue tape. Removal of the engine cover takes about 10 minutes.

Love Rustolium paints!
Don’t need high temp because it doesn’t get that hot. It’s important to prep the surface. Get it absolutely clean by scrubbing with Dawn then alcohol to remove any mold release or anything else off. Don’t pile on the primer or color. A thick coating is more likely to crack because the plastic expands and contract significantly with temperature. Krylon makes a paint for plastic which may work too.

Great DIY job - the cover :rocks:. Plus you saved a bunch of $$$$s in the process.

Nice job !!!
I take it you considered removing the satin aluminum "Corvette" pieces, but they must be heat staked in???

Having my NAPA guy come out to the car, shoot it with a spectrometer, and then matching to the actual color book we came up with WA132X, "Caught Red Handed" which is a 2016 Cadilac ATS color. Very close match to Edge (or Ventham) red. I've sourced the paint in two part spray cans and will shoot mine this week...

I've got a better idea for all C7 and C8 owners. Pull that ugly *** cover off completely. Especially for C8 owners. The plenum on the C8 looks pretty good - WAY better than that gay *** cover. Rip it off and let the mechanicals shine through!
