Default Question for those who ordered a C8

My good friend ordered a C8 last Oct from a small dealership in Central Texas and put a $1000 deposit down.
He is not into forums so I keep him updated on the info I read here. I asked for his order number and his sales guy said there is no order number until his dealer has made an order for the allocation. I believe he is #11.

When did you get your order number? Thanks

His order has not been accepted by GM. The dealer is simply waiting for their allocation slot so he can submit the actual order and all details/options to GM.

Immediately. Gave my deposit and order was entered. Status was 1100, waiting for a matching allocation. Was given the order number at that time

At the first dealership i was over their allocation so no number at the time. They called me at Christmas and said I was 65 or 66. At dealer #2, small allocation, they told me they had 26 slots and I was #13 right there the day i put down the deposit. Kinda moot now as I got a CTF car.

Default Went in the morning GM started taking orders.

I kept a eye out for orders to open.
I talked to dealer often.
I put my deposit in before orders opened.
The morning GM started to allow dealers to place orders I was at the dealer with my check book.

Two others beat me to the door, so they got allocation #1 and #2 for that dealer. I got #3.

But they wanted options that were limited during week one of the builds. So I changed my order to only get the options offered for week one builds and paid cash up front for the car.

That moved me from allocation #3 to allocation #1.

Wooo hooo.
This same strategy was used on the 2014 and I got car 190. But I do not yet know what number I got except it was week one builds.

Go figure?
Just sitting here waiting.
Trying to figure when they will finish the reflash and start loading.

I heard they got 1600 to reflash???
If they have 10 guys reflashing and they do 8 a day each that's 80 per day that's 20 fricken days!!!
20!
So they better put 30 guys reflashing so they do it in a week.
Or better yet get 500 guys doing it and get it done in 3 days.

How many allocations did the dealer have? That will tell us what we need to know to get a better answer.

I was #13 on the list. When the dealer got notice they were getting a car, the salesman called through his pre orders and only i said I would take it. Doing the paperwork on Wednesday. Going to get some dealer installed items added. Still haven’t cancelled my deposits yet!

That's a load of BS. I just looked at my initial printout from my dealer dated 7/24/19 and it has my order number on it. Obviously it was at 1100 for about 6 months, but I had my order number on 7/24/19.

Some dealers put orders in ahead of time even if they dont have allocation. Some dealers don't submit an order until they have allocation.

I believe the dealer had 11 allocations, he is the last. This is my concern, if allocations get cut, my buddy is up the creek...

Hey Phil...that is my thought too, the sales guy does not know what he's doing. Would you be will to share a copy of your sales order? [privately, of course] I'd like to show it to the sales manager. Thanks

When the dealer enters the order into the GM order database (which is typically done while the customer is at the dealership after making the deposit), an order number is generated by GM. They should give the customer the number at that time.

That and a print out listing every bit of information entered such a what type order, your specific info, build specs, price, priority #, etc. Then go over every bit of if with the dealer to verify everything entered before you leave a deposit, if requested. And a promise of subsequent order updates weekly if there is any status change(s). From day one that has been me and my dealer’s agreement.

People actually in the business keep saying this and others not in the business keep ignoring it. Some dealers do not input into the system until they either have or are very close to having an allocation for that particular slot. If your friend is number 11 and they are still trying to fill order number two or three, it makes no difference at all.

Whether a dealer has one order in the system or two hundred has no bearing on when cars are allocated. The dealer has been given an idea how many cars they were allocated for the year. Unfortunately that number appears to be falling for all dealers because of the delays. The cars are allocated to all the dealers monthly and the dealer is going to have a couple of days to enter the relevant orders into the system before they are picked up.

Once again...the dealer does not receive the first car of any type from the factory outside the system. The mere fact that he has any cars in inventory would tell you he knows how to operate the system. There has been some very unfortunate information spread on this forum, I suspect by dealers trying to make themselves look better and more knowledgable.

If he is 11 of 11 he is not going to get a 2020.

I'd be happy to, but there are some on here that make a good point. It all boils down to HOW your dealer handles orders. Mine put it in the day I configured, didn't accomplish much since it laid there for six months, another dealer may say OK I took your deposit, I'm not putting anything in the system until it can turn into an accepted (allocation for that month) order. At the end of the day I guess there isn't any way that's right or wrong as long as when the allocation is given, the order goes in.
