The whole idea of a body colored fuel cap is to have it disappear into the visual body line. Since it is located in such a prominent place It should blend in and not standout like a black hole in the side.

Will wait to see what market brings
Many muscle cars have had non body color gas caps, Challengers, Camaro’s and Mustangs to name a few.
I will admit that particular picture does not look good.

2020 C6 of the Year Winner - Modified
Just because other cars have it, doesn't mean it looks good. Both examples that were posted looked awful, and as cmonkey said it should blend in. Our Mitsubishi Outlander has an "appearance package" which consists of lower body aero components, a larger rear spoiler & an ugly metallic colored fuel door. The vehicle is Silver metallic so it doesn't stand out that much, but still looks stupid having a different colored square on the side of the vehicle. If I drove that vehicle more I'd probably swap out the fuel door for a body-colored one, but it's my wife's work & our family road trip vehicle, so I'm not in it much.
But don't worry someone will replaced the body-colored fuel door with a chrome version and add a chrome strip along the edge of the scoop - I'd bet money on it
