Default After 500 mile break-in, will you need a service visit to remove the torque limiter?

My M3 required a service visit, with fluid change (it was free) after the recommended break in miles. At that service, they reset some software to give full power and rev limit. Will the C8 require a service before the limit is removed?

As of right now, I plan to pick up my C8 in Louisville, and drive it to Jacksonville. I may stop at the NCM, and drive the Tail of the Dragon on the way home. From the dealership to tail of the dragon is about 350 miles. I'd like to give it the full beans, so driving another 150 miles to get that break in period may be just a few hours up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway. If it won't re set though, it doesn't make much difference.

Anyhoo, couldn't sleep tonight, and was mentally trying to plan out places to stop on the drive back.

That could be tough to experience “full beans” on the Dragon. Last time I drove it there were three Sheriff vehicles conspicuously displayed on the route with officers running radar from all three.

If you’re going that far also drive the Cherahola Skyway and visit the Bald River falls just up from the Ranger Station. Worth the drive.

Doubt you’ll need a visit to the Chevy dealer to “unlock” the additional HP. It’s probably just software governed until the odometer hits 500 miles.

I'll bet you're 100% correct. But, how about we ask the man directly for his question next month?

Of course not, it will go away at 500 miles just like the yellow warning on the C7 tachometers.

Hello, Brock! Been a while. I was just out in Casper visiting MQ. We should talk.

I can't remember if you every rode 'cycles up there, but I do it 3-4 times a year so I know the roads quite well, including the BRP and all the feeder roads to avoid the 64 traffic jam. And I just drove the whole area (about 450 miles) in a Caddy rental doing the leaf-peeper thing with the GF. Believe me, you don't need full beans on those roads. Even a half can of beans would be plenty. IMO, tire pressures and properly bedded brakes count more than beans up there.

My C8 order is in at Coggins, BTW.

I'm 99.999999999999999999999999% certain it goes away on it's own just like the C7 suggested lower rpm tach. It would be silly to have to go in especially given the first service isn't due until 7,500 miles.

As others have stated I believe it will be self-correcting. The dry-sump configuration may require and oil change at 500 miles.

No... that's false. Please stop spreading bad info. The C8's first service is 7,500 miles. The only reason the C7 dry sump needed a 500 mile oil change was because of the risk of an interaction between the RTV used fort the oil pan and timing cover and the oil causing a reduction in anti-foaming properties. As a result, they spec'd a 500 mile oil change for the dry sump C7s.

Software controlled to protect the components, after 500 it goes away. SO NO. I have had cars with similar programs.

I did more thinking today, perhaps a limit would be a good idea so I don't get in much trouble on those roads. New car... yeah, it might not be ideal to have the full beans. I have driven a mid engine sports car at pretty much full tilt on the dragon before, it is a hoot to do. My return trip may get a bit longer, if the 500 break in period doesn't require a dealer visit. I can even see adding another day to spin up and down the roads in that area.

Off topic question what is included or recommended at the 7500 mile service? Thanks

Supposedly oil/filter and trans filter. Then after than trans filter is every 3 oil changes or 20K miles.

Wow is that the first oil change? Ready to see the owners manual when it comes out.

You sure about that? I think thats a long held myth in the community.. I think that all they do is enable launch control at the initial service. It was rumored on my M2 also.. Bunch of bunk...
