Default 1st hands-on C8 dealer training - SIGNED UP!

Booked Monday, huge deal and opportunity. It was a tough class to find in our system but really pumped to bring you first hand account of the car, driving etc

The training sessions are Top of the mountain ( no pun intended ie; at Spring Mountain )when it comes to Corvette training there.

My Corvette tech Chuck and myself will be there 12/3 - 12/4 truly a special time indeed ( in more ways than one!)

Can't wait to go back there when I get my C8.
Thought I would never track my 2016 C7 (35 track days now) but that experience changed my mind!

It would be nice if GM subsidized Spring Mountain like they did with the C7. I guess sales are strong enough to not have to throw in that value-add...

People will still need some amount of training for a mid-engine. You know, to reduce the number of totaled cars that end up at a CO PART auction.

what training is needed? Read the manual, don’t use the track mode unless you are on the track, when you have cold or wet weather put it in weather mode. No training will keep people that use poor judgement from making bad decisions. They think that they want to skid around so they cut off the nannies, then are surprised when a 500 hp car skids around? The only thing that permanently fixes stupid is death. Sometimes age an experience helps reduce the level or frequency of bad decisions. Sometimes the testosterone levels fade enough to reduce bad decisions, classes rarely do. How many people have been to defensive driving classes more than once?

Oh gee.. I don't know. Maybe HPDE training / track time in a ME might have some differences from that of an FE. I wouldn't go so far as citing that winning a candidate for a Darwin Award is the next step for someone who buys a C8. There might be intermediate decision points between signing the purchase agreement and .... Receiving the Darwin award.

I can’t imagine how I and many others made switches to rear mid engined cars without dying even before they had nannies? If someone needs lessons to drive a new C8 there is no reason for GM it subsidize it. People need to just be responsible for their own actions. GM has already done enough to protect the ignorant. And no need to take options (freedom) away from the experienced by eliminating the ability to disable the nannies.

I wonder why GM subsidized FE C7 HPDE then.

I don’t know. Maybe they were afraid people wouldn’t know to drive a rear wheel drive performance car? Especially if they were coming from something they were told was a performance car, like the FWD Hyundai Veloster. That could be tough for some people.

or maybe as a sales incentive instead of a more costly cash rebate. Given the order backlog on the C8, maybe they did not feel a need for it.

How do you know they won't subsidize it? No one has received a C8 yet to find out.
