I don't think any of this info will be released until the article/ magazine issue is published.

I agree, the GS did that back in the 2017 PCOTY which was faster than the NSX, Nismo GTR, A8 V10, etc. back then. I'm guessing high 1:32-1:33 if they're using the same track layout.

Well... 1:22.8 is the number straight from R&T. Here's the article and video.

The first thing you notice is just how quickly the thing turns in. While the ratio for the steering is nearly the same as the C7, you're sitting further forward, so everything feels more immediate. The steering is either overly light or overly heavy, and doesn't say too much in the way of feedback. But it's accurate. My first reaction was that it somehow still felt like a Corvette, a crazy thing to say about a car that has had a fundamental change in layout and construction."

from the article :
More time spent then made you realize quirks. It enters understeer readily, and needs a big swing at the gas or a huge lift to upset it and induce oversteer. It has massive grip on corner exit, the whole intent of this change was to make sure it could hook up. Of course, the old Stingray also hooked up just fine, but when there's an extra 100 or 200 horsepower out back, it'll be bananas how it'll get out of a corner.

So is 1:22.8 good or not? The review seems generally positive.

It doesn’t matter what the 1LE did 2 years ago - different time and different conditions. Unless it’s a head-to-head comparison, digging into the past like this means nothing in evaluating the C8. It’s like telling me I’m the greatest driver in the world because I set a road course lap record years ago that still stands today (which I did) - until you find out the track is now buried under hundreds of condos...

thanks for posting up...As I read the article I certainly got the impression, the steering, the dct, the brakes, an the mrc package needed and was going to receive further tuning before the c8 goes into production
GM has stated this, Matt Farrah has said it and travis the test driver here at 1:22.8 has stated it as well.
i cant say how much faster the c8 will track with further fully planned tuning in the DCT,the braking and steering system and the MRC system....before prodiction but we can fully expect improvements.
with GMs new ability for over the air computer enhancements...GM can also update these areas quite easily..
i fully expect GM to utilize its over the air computer syste, updates in the first year of c8 production to showcase its new found capability...
that is truly what corvette is...its always been the halo test bed for the entire corporation and as a great halo car for the corporation...
what better way to extend the corporations technological advance, ents over its competitors...
either way 1:22.8 is impressive...if I remember the smoking tire podcasts Matt Farrah stated he was about one second behind Sam Smith and Jason Cammissa on a road course...same car etc...Ill assume that includes Travis as well...if thats the case we can only guess travis time in the womderful 992 is 1:25 seconds a lap...
the 992 is a beautiful machine and as iconic as the corvette...
im sure that makes many porsche fans sick but as a corvette enthusiasts I could care less if the 911s equalled or beat the c8....I still admire both brands...as I always have.
i did enjoy reading the steering and the turn in was really quick and Im hopeful the negative aspects of weird steering as descrived is just part of the tuning process...
thanks again for posting up the article and the video...
yes the 60 to 85 grand c8 is not a direct competitor for the 200 or 300 grand ferrari or mclaren... . And Im ok with that...the future 85 to 100 grand c8 z06 will cover that...from a performance excess perspective...
if the c8 grand sport were available today that i would drop the extra 5 or tem grand on but its not and Ive been hearing about the mid engine corvette for over 40 years...i just cant wait...
bring on tje final tuned c8 z51 for us to buy as soon as the strime ends and eliveries begin.
I've had my reservation in since Mid May 2019..so hopefully ill get my delivery before the emd of next summer..
i look forward to over the air updates as they are created too.
I dont even think we will be charged 350 dollars as was done with the c7 in the past year or so with a dealer visit.
we are in for exciting times as corvette enthusiasts.
