Default Using GM credit card points

Planning on a 2021 Z51, 2LT Coupe. Got myself a GM credit card. Anyone had any experience using points from the card to help with a Vette purchase?

Im guessing that getting a military discount as I did when I bought my 2015 may be tough to do on the C8. It’s up to dealers to honor the discount.

Used it on a 2013 and a 2019 without issue at Macmulkin, $3000 on the 2013 and $46xx on the 2019. (they allowed $5000 on 2019) The new cards have different rules then the one I have though. Had it since 2005 and mine is unlimited earnings but a cap on the amount you can use on each car, and points fall off after 7 years.

Default When will GM points be redeemable for c8?

Hi All

There is usually a lag on when the new car models are set up to acknowledge and points can be redeemable at the dealer. Anyone know that timing for the c8? You need to redeem when picking up your car and completing the transaction.

That's the card I have, too. I didn't realize they raised the limit to $5000 for 2019. Add that to the discounts, and that would be hard to pass up.

Be surprised if they allowed any in first year. But they should.

GM points are cash. They have never blocked the use of them. It would go against the terms of the credit card.

Default Timing is the issue.

Program has to be in place for c8 eligibility at time of car pick up. For us early buyers hope not a lag problem?

Default Called GM card

I called the GM card .They show 2020 Corvette is eligible, depending on your card type the limit is $1000 in points or unlimited if you have the “newer” card, which I have.

I have the old GM Card. Points expire after seven years. I’m hemorrhaging points every month. I just called and they said I could switch over to the new GM BuyPower Card with no expiration on points, however they’ll only transfer 500 points, and I’ll lose all my other points. So I’ll stick with the old card until the new 2020 Corvette comes in, I’ll redeem my remaining points, then swap over to GM BuyPower after that.

Thanks BIG Dave, I was going to call them tomorrow. Not willing to lose my current points, so I will follow your route also.

Is the 5% on first $5000 a year based on your signup year or calendar year? I tried searching but couldn’t find an answer

For you guys with the old card and wanting to switch, I'll gladly buy any additional points you have that you can't use after buying your c8.

Default Losing points is a disgrace!

I had a huge fight over that old car years back. Canceled my GM card for years! Opened new card two years ago when planning for C8 buy!!!

I got a postcard from GM Card in the mail that is how I found out. I was at the point of losing a month of points and gaining the current month, so I was either even or losing a few dollars worth every month. Combined with all the other discounts, worked out great.
