I'm 32, I have two cars with chrome wheels. I like the chrome, much more durable than painted. Where I live every painted wheel is pitted from salt on the road and stained with brake dust. Chrome wheels on the other hand look like new from a quick wipe down. Polished aluminum also works well but requires a bit more to clean up.

So yea no painted for me, won't survive the winter.

The inside scoop from GM is that's how they planned to sell all the leftover C7's on dealer lots.

As soon as I bought my 08 C6 first thing I did was tint.... black halo.... and black wheels...

And ps...

Did some digging on "C8jake"

I discovered he is about he has to be about 83 years old.. see... he started at age 17 in 1953 when his nickname was C1jake.. then every gen he updated his name... rumor has it that C1jake was the first person to put black wheels on a Corvette (his 53 his only white one.. got it early paid msrp +5k like every new gen car that comes out.. has to be first!)..

Explains most of those posts doesn't it?

Because one is a truck and the other is a mid engine sports car. There’s your answer.

Wheel-wise, I dig the bling. I just leave the boy racer stuff off the rest of the car. Would do the same if offered the opportunity on the C8.

lol...that's funny...I'll be 63 in a couple months and my C7 Z06 has black wheels and my previous 911 Turbo had VERY expensive HRE bright metallic but definitely not chrome wheels...personally the only chrome wheels I ever liked were the Cragar SS Mags back in the muscle car days. Fyi, in the C8 available wheels I like the base bright wheels the best.

Mostly they just scream "I have no taste and I don't care who knows!"

That said, there have been a few tasteful applications of chrome wheels

Because sometimes you need to protect people from their own bad choices.

GMC wheels are PVD coated. Can't tell looking at them one way or another. PVD is supposed to be better though from my understanding.

I have some Z51 chrome wheels and they are NOT painted chrome nor PVD. The barrels are painted a grey/silver but the outside is real chrome.

That is the way the ZR1 wheels in the video were too. But they were painted, just like yours. Not real chrome

I'm confused here. Are you saying that Z51 chrome wheels aren't real chrome on the outside? Because I can assure you, they are.

They were an option for the C7.

Don't post I’m x old and I got black or chrome wheels........go to a corvette gathering look at the cars and the owners and see who’s driving chrome. Guaranteed old is chrome

I'm saying it is painted just like the chrome ZR1 wheels. Look at your lug holes and the inner barrel. That is just grey paint, and the rest is painted chrome.

Yes, the wheels have some painted surfaces but that doesn't mean the chromed surfaces aren't plated. I used to work in a facility that had a nickel plating operation. You can mask off areas that you don't want plating on. The Z51 wheel chromed surfaces are metal, not paint. They are very scratch resistant compared to paint. You can also tell when looking at the areas with curb rash. Paint can be touched up, chrome can't.

Because they couldnt publicly break it to the DooWop crowd that the chrome wheel obsession is beyond embarrassing and had to go in order to move the new car into the .modern age and attract future buyers who would cringe looking at chrome wheels. The entire Corvette Team knows it and could never admit publicly. And thank God
