The most comparable model to the C8 is the Cayman - 2 seat, mid-engine, starting price of $58,000.00. The Cayman GT4 weighs under 3,200 lbs (with massive iron brakes) has 415 HP, front trunk, rear trunk, similar performance, starting price under $100K.

So yes, why does the aluminum/SMC C8 Z51weighs ˜400lbs more than the steel structure Cayman with similar HP, bigger brakes, etc?
Nice numbers to select, the Cayman GT4 is $104K+. Compare that to the performance/cost of the base C8 Z06 when it comes out, heavier but with far more performance than the GT4.

Didn't we already go thru this a month ago?

If you want to compare $58K to $60K C8, then 300 hp with 3200# won't match well with 495 HP and 3600# C8.

The only time I turn on the radio in my Vette is to AM radio to hear traffic/weather for 2 minutes.

Rowing thru the gears in my C6 Z06 with an amazing exhaust is like a symphony.

Second the performance will not be equal. C8 Z51>GT4. GT4 gearing just plain sucks and no PDK option.
Third maybe Porsche needs to add some more weight in structural reinforcements to the GT4?? Do some research on front strut tower failures......

I would own a new GT4 if they had addressed some of the current shortcomings HP/torque, gearing, strut tower redesign......and how about a PDK option?? Disappointing for the $$ but I guess they have to neuter the GT4 for fear of being a better car than the 911.
Porsche admits it has future plans to bring the snappy PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox to the GT4, but for now, you are correct, you'll need to shift it yourself or find another car. I am on a list for a manual GT4, I don't expect to get mine if I still move forward with it until 1st Q 2021. If the UAW strike did not happen my C8/Z51 would be here in early 1st Q of 2020.

Sadly many here will never get this.

It's not horrible... but the C5 and C6 Z06s were 3,100 lb cars... then the C7 was coming out and we heard about all these light-weight technologies and the Z51 was 3444... then we got used to it and now another 150lbs isn't "that bad" and we're at 3,600 lbs. It's like a frog in water slowly turning up the heat. When the hybrid TT one comes out it'll be 4,200 lbs and we'll be like, "but it has 900 horse"...

Ford GT500 weighs 4,225 lbs, (760HP) it's supposed to be their King Of the Hill masterpiece.

I'm guessing 3.6 seconds to 60MPH and 10.9 Qtr, for an MSRP around $100k without dealer markup.

Now we know the weights of the C8 cars tested by the magazines and the news is even worse. The C8 now weighs the same as my all-steel, 4seat, Camaro SS 1LE.

MotorTrend: 3,622 lbs

Car and Driver: 3,647 lbs

Road and Track: 3,647 lbs

And all report disappointing braking performance with the supposedly wonderful mid-engine placement doing absolutely nothing to improve braking distance or feel.

Why would going midengine help braking distance when the C7 stopped quicker to zero than almost every midengined car available?

Jaguar F-Type R - 4000lbs
Mercedes AMG GT C - 3800lbs
Porsche 992S - 3400lbs
Audi R8 - 3700lbs

Seems like its right where it should be.
Lotus makes a car that competes, and it's probably the benchmark in terms of a driver's car as well. Evora GT: midengine, aluminum chassis, 416hp/3,100lb.

This is exactly what I was going to post. You can buy a Chevy with effectively the same engine, same weight, at half the cost. It's called a Camaro and will come with seating for 4.

It makes little to no difference. But that was the argument used by the chevy battered wives crowd in here as to why the C8 only needed tiny brakes in the front. They claimed with mid-engine placement the front brakes only needed to be that tiny to do the best job possible.

Where?

I’d like to see that.
