I don't even know why people insist on using the 911 for comparison. A 2+2, rear engine design!
The most comparable model to the C8 is the Cayman - 2 seat, mid-engine, starting price of $58,000.00. The Cayman GT4 weighs under 3,200 lbs (with massive iron brakes) has 415 HP, front trunk, rear trunk, similar performance, starting price under $100K.
So yes, why does the aluminum/SMC C8 Z51weighs ˜400lbs more than the steel structure Cayman with similar HP, bigger brakes, etc?

Didn't we already go thru this a month ago?
If you want to compare $58K to $60K C8, then 300 hp with 3200# won't match well with 495 HP and 3600# C8.

First you are not getting a new GT4 for less than 100k.
Second the performance will not be equal. C8 Z51>GT4. GT4 gearing just plain sucks and no PDK option.
Third maybe Porsche needs to add some more weight in structural reinforcements to the GT4?? Do some research on front strut tower failures......
I would own a new GT4 if they had addressed some of the current shortcomings HP/torque, gearing, strut tower redesign......and how about a PDK option?? Disappointing for the $$ but I guess they have to neuter the GT4 for fear of being a better car than the 911.

It's not horrible... but the C5 and C6 Z06s were 3,100 lb cars... then the C7 was coming out and we heard about all these light-weight technologies and the Z51 was 3444... then we got used to it and now another 150lbs isn't "that bad" and we're at 3,600 lbs. It's like a frog in water slowly turning up the heat. When the hybrid TT one comes out it'll be 4,200 lbs and we'll be like, "but it has 900 horse"...

I'm guessing 3.6 seconds to 60MPH and 10.9 Qtr, for an MSRP around $100k without dealer markup.

Now we know the weights of the C8 cars tested by the magazines and the news is even worse. The C8 now weighs the same as my all-steel, 4seat, Camaro SS 1LE.
MotorTrend: 3,622 lbs
Car and Driver: 3,647 lbs
Road and Track: 3,647 lbs
And all report disappointing braking performance with the supposedly wonderful mid-engine placement doing absolutely nothing to improve braking distance or feel.

It makes little to no difference. But that was the argument used by the chevy battered wives crowd in here as to why the C8 only needed tiny brakes in the front. They claimed with mid-engine placement the front brakes only needed to be that tiny to do the best job possible.

I’d like to see that.
