It is the best performance car of the year, not best "bang for your buck" performance car of the year. Price should not be taken into consideration when ranking the cars, but it should be an asterisk at the end.
Would not be fair to give the Vette a #1 spot if it loses a majority of the performance tests just because it's a cheap car.

They rate the cars on "significance" vs. all out performance. The C8 is extremely significant.

Google forced perspective... it's not a small car, but being the closest to the camera is going to make it relatively larger. The car is 5" longer and 2" wider than the outgoing base C7. It's still like 1.5" narrower than a C7 widebody (this does not account for side mirrors).

Will be interested to see how the car ranks. C7s were always right under the ultra high end performance cars (918s, P1s, etc) and above many of the other exotics.

Burning Brakes
If the McLaren doesn't win, something's not right. Of course, I would prefer the winner be the C8, but the Lamborghini and McLaren have outstanding hp and torque, and are lighter.

Looks like they're at Thunderhill Raceway right now. Looks like some fun is being had as well.

Awesome photo with the C8 front and center!
And yet another great thing about the new 2020 Corvette...you can work on the engine while laying down!

In Motor Trend - doesn't the winner get its picture taken in the front of the pack?
I've seen the previous Motor Trend pictures for the PCOTY. In the magazine, after they decide on the winner, don't they usually position the winning car in the front of its competition like the picture posted on this thread? Can this potentially mean the Corvette won the PCOTY competition?
Just sayin.
Cheers!
Can't wait till the C8s start arriving for pick-up at our dealers!

Would have been really cool if the GT500 Mustang was in the test as well. Maybe not available in time?
Looking forward to seeing what R&T thinks about the vehicles. I like their balance of performance, practicality, street, and track driving (and not just because the GT350 was a past winner).
Looks like some stiff competition, and I hope the C8 does very well. Sure looks good in that photo, too!

Safety Car
This is one of the most BS awards. Only "significantly new" models can compete. So lots of great cars like the Ford GT or the McClaren Senna aren't there but puff cars like the Miata are because it's got a new engine taking it to the stratospheric height of 181 HP.
