PSA...No automatic car wash

Been using a touchless car wash for years now. The downside is it only gets about 90% of the car. I'll try it with the C8 and see how good of a job it does. I am planning on picking up a foam cannon anyway. Home car washing it so easy now you might as well. Spray it on, let sit, rinse it off.

Do people take their Vettes thru an automated Car Wash?
WTF?
I would never buy a Vette unless it was only Hand Washed and all door jams, hood, trunk, wiped down every wash.
Lazy *****.

I would NEVER take any Vette through an automated car wash, but anyone who has ever done the Bowling Green factory tour knows that EVERY Vette that comes off the line goes into a “spray booth” that simulates a torrential rain storm to check for any leaks.
I’m sure the C8’s will too.

If you watched the video I think what he means is water sprayed backwards towards the vents will pool in the bottom of the engine compartment. He said that the drain holes are small and water can fill up faster than it may drain. That’s the issue.

HIgh standards I guess. If it's reasonably clean and mechanically sound, it passes my test. Modern paint is pretty resilient.

Splash N Dash Touchless Car Wash ONLY. No tracks. No brushes EVER. My dealer receives notice in writing from me, to be put in my customer profile, that no wash should ever be performed at service. When I detail it, I buy 10 jugs of distilled water to rinse, use a foam cannon, and use brand new microfiber cloths that are disposed of after every use. Nothing is worse than micro-scratches.

I have always stayed away from car washes on the Corvettes because of the wide tires. And most car washes that are any good move the car through on a track. Also the car is quite low and I am never certain that it will clear the inside of the track. Now the C8 has narrow tires so I think the tire width is not as much of a problem. Is the ride height? I don't know, but we will see.
I do use a car wash for my V car. It has tracks that pull the ca along but all washing in the car wash is done by humans with rags or a simple spray or blow drier. And it has ceramic coating so the finish is a bit harder than just a waxed finish.
I expect the Z will have wider tires and be lower so will have the same problems with a tracked car wash.

Melting Slicks
I don’t know ANY Corvette owners who would bring their car to a drive through car wash. Besides, don’t know about earlier models but the C7 & C8 tires are too wide for the car wash tire rails.
I spoke with the engine team while attending the 25th NCM Anniversary. They told me the C8 engine is waterproof they made it that way because they required the added airflow. Even the header is powder coated and will not rust.
Someone needs to tell Rick Conti.
Note the open air vents on the sides of the rear hatch. The engine engineer told me, “yes water will pour into the engine especially when the car is washed but it will not hurt anything. The entire engine and components are waterproof.”
Pic of the powder coated header. As an aside, t spoke with the engineer who designed the pipe and he said it’s a shame no one will see the beauty of the pipe because it will be isolated from the main engine bay by a heat shield.
^^^^the driver side fan will suck water directly into the engine bay on a rainy day. Not everybody avoids driving in the rain.
Seems everyone is forgetting the Soap cycle. There is no way to rinse the engine compartment to remove the soapy water, whose residue could be/is harmful to some components in the engine compartment.

I spent 4 hours on my SS yesterday and it looks great. And 4 months from now, I'll spend 4 hours on it again. Or...you can just leave it dirty and voila, no scratches.
My SS was the perfect case in point. I bought it used (6,500 miles) and it had very clearly lived it's life being run through a brush car wash. I have a level of abrasive that I'm comfortable using (Meguires 205). This is pretty mild stuff, and it wouldn't put a dent in the scratches on the car. So, I took it to a pro detailer, he had the car 2 days, and when I got it back, it was as close to scratch free as you could ask for. Now, with the paint really healthy, I do the NanoSkin/Meguires 205, and sealant every 4 months or so, and once completed, it looks like it did when I got it back from the detailer. I am not suggesting ANYONE do this....I ENJOY doing it (my wife says it's my Xanax!!!).

I'll likely have some additional information tomorrow, but for now, one of the Corvette Team members told me that the C8 engine bay could be power washed with no issues, just as you could with the C7 engine bay.

I take my car to those DIY car washes. Put in 5 bucks, you get about 12 minutes of water. First I spray it with high pressure water to get most of the surface dirt off, then spray it with soapy water, then spray it again with high pressure water, than spray it with low pressure "spot free rinse". Afterwards, I cruise for 4-5 miles on the freeway to help dry it off. Works perfectly, no water spots or anything. Every third or fourth wash, I'll bring a rag with me to hand scrub the wheels.
I used to do handwashing with a bucket and hose, shammy etc. but the DIY car wash method looks almost as good. And my car is a daily driver, so no matter how good I wash it, within a week it starts to get dirty again. So no point in getting too **** about washing it.
