Default What would match the significance of the C8?

IMHO, the change from FE to ME for the iconic (and even legendary) Corvette is an automotive event that may not be topped in my lifetime (I am 47). About the only similar magnitude possibilities would be if Lamborghini or Ferrari decided to release 'affordable' models that would compete in the Corvette market (from a cost perspective).

What else could be so monumental? What previous car release was AS monumental?

The Tesla story is far more monumental. It demonstrated incredible performance, public acceptance, reasonable practicality, and pushed the rest of the industry more quickly into electrification.

The massive proliferation and popularity of SAVs/SUVs/Crossovers, and trucks at the expense of cars is also a more monumental story.

There will be many more to come. Only 30,000 to 40,000 people will think it's monumental. Corvette separating from Chevrolet and becoming its own brand with a Corvette SUV and sedan. Now that would be monumental.

Maybe as monumental but I'd argue less. There are folks who have never heard of Tesla automobiles still. They are not in same league as Corvette, or any other major brand in my opinion, but they will some day be.

The realization of attainable flying cars would be pretty monumental.

It will happen. Porsche, Lamborghini, even Rolls Royce have expanded from their original roles. A dedicated brand with highly trained sales and service would really take Corvette to the next level.

You might think it's the most monumental, but you sound a bit biased. Poll the general population both in the US and elsewhere, and the Corvette story would be way down the list. A year from now or less, no one will think much, if anything, about it.

It's only monumental in places like this forum.

There is nothing monumental about changing the engine location of the Corvette, lol. I think you are blowing this way out of proportion. This is on the same level as the Mitsubishi Eclipse changing from a 2 door sporty car to a 4 door small SUV.

What would be monumental is if C8Jake stopped posting the same pictures over and over again.

I think the release of Countach in 74 (although not as monumental as C8) was pretty significant with the cab forward design & scissor doors.

The elimination of fossil fuel powered cars and full implementation of driverless cars are two significant changes that will likely occur in your lifetime.

disagree, on all counts

I could be bias, but I dont think so. Time will tell.

I guess I see the Corvette brand as iconic. I think it would be like Porsche taking its 911 and making it front engine. There arent even that many comparable iconic sports cars that could do something so significant. If you dont see it already, certainly nothing I can say will make you understand. I think you arent getting carried away enough!

Man, if you cant get 'carried away' on a Corvette forum about the most significant development in its 50+ year history, than where can you? Tough crowd.

I agree the Lamorghini Countach was pretty profound, really the definition of the modern supercar. I am particularly taken by the C8 as it has put the same and greater levels of performance within reach of so many, including myself.
