Default Why is there this Chevy fetish to build the Corvette with a Camaro rear end?

Why is Chevy determined to build a corvette with the rear that looks like a camaro? Did the pres of camaro catch the pres of corvette with his wife or something? C7 and now theC8. I’m just baffled that they build this beautiful car and then make the rear favor something else. The first thing my wife said when she seen the rear of the C8 was that it looks like a camaro, and she’s not into cars at all. Please help me.

Still haven't figured out how people make that assumption. I used pictures to compare both side by side and there is not much similarity between the two.

How dare a car company have some common DNA between their two performance cars. This is outrageous and no other company does that. Because if this I am keeping my 84 Corvette with 225,000 miles on it and will not be trading it in for a C8.

Let me see if I have this straight . . . .the Corvette has tail lights - the Camaro has tail lights. The Corvette has exhaust tips - the Camaro has exhaust tips. The Corvette has a license plate holder - the Camaro has a license plate holder. Yep, the back end of the C8 looks like a Camaro!!! NOT!!!!

Heh. Checked out the rear ends of the various BMWs lately? They all look sort of the same. Oh, and so do the front ends. It's the design language as they call it in car industry jargon. If you don't like that a Corvette looks like a Camaro from the back then look at it the other way around. A Camaro looks like a Corvette...

Obviously not, or she would realize that it's the other way around. The Camaro rear took styling cues from the Corvette.

In that one direct rear end photo of the red C8, the possibility of Camaro/C8 rear end similarity was enabled to many of us including the wife and I. But once we drove down and looked at the new C8 in person, we both realized it was a non-issue. Not even remotely. I asked about 4 or 5 others what they thought after seeing it in real life. They also felt there was no resemblance and certainly not to the extent that from the front the NXT looks like almost every other Acura and Honda out there.

I understand all of your answers and trust me, I know they are all true. It just seems to me that they would have offered up something a little different. It's just so many other ways they could have went with this. I understand I'm on a C-8 forum, and no doubt you all probably have some bias toward the car. I like the car also, and will probably own a C8 one day. I just with they had made the rear end a little different. Thanks for all the replies.

Thank you sir, I'm hoping it has the same effect on me.

All the way back to the early 1970s there at times have been similarities b/n Corvette and Camaro rear ends and tail lights.

Hardly anything new.

Simple, more so for the Corvette, than Camaro.

If you look at the C8's rear end, an whats going on there, you should should see, part of the rear panel's design across the top has to with the main's body's design that allowed for best aerodynamic function of it's design, while below the taillights, openings for rear engine cooling, radiators to support the C51 Track Package to try and keep engine from overheating. Then below those sits that big center muffler!

Study the rear panel, and tell me/us what shape(s) taillight(s) you think would look better if given more room, an/or with current constrains.

It's easy to criticize/critique, but try an come up with an alternate design that pleases you to replace what you don't like with. Then, submit it to GM so they can see if it's possible to improve the look of rear-end with your design, within the constrains of trying to build us a great performance Sports Car with taillights that don't remind us of the Camaro's.

Just tell her to do the above. Then see if she understands, with your help, an after taking into account budget constrain on her life style, should that might be an issue, let you buy one.

It's all right to tell her that most people that will see the car, probably have never paid any attention to a Camaro's rear end, if they've ever even seen one or paid attention to it rear taillight's design to compare the two ...LOL

It's not so much a camaro rear end, more just a chevy rear end.

But yeah idk why they do it.

There is no comparison between a C8 rear end and a Camaro. I just returned from Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix, Arizona where they had the blue car on display. The tail light lenses are 3 dimensional and actually stick out of the back of the car giving it an affect that I have not seen elsewhere. I was very impressed with the car. By the way, even if they were similar, so were the Camaros and Corvettes in the early seventies. Both had two round tail lights on each side and a tail that swept upward.
