Does anyone know if the C8 has "Stop/Start" engine control?
Seems like "stop/start" is being included on many new cars to get the fuel mileage numbers up. Does anyone know if it's part of the new C8? If it's required does anyone know if the system can be turned off? Or is it just to early to answer any of these questions.
Thanks for the input.

There is no Start/stop mechanism.
The implemented fuel mileage boosting system is instead Active Fuel Management (AFM) - which involves deactivating cylinders when you're just cruising.
If the C8 drive modes are similar to the C7, you'll be able to turn AFM off in Sport/Track mode - and probably Z mode as well.

The PROBLEM is that the GOVERNMENT does and regulates it. Brought to us by the Obozo regime. I f-in hate it on my new truck.
Interesting tidbit of information. The G.M. at the dealer where I ordered my C-8 informed me that the fuel requirements may have an effect upon constraints on the new C-8.

If I remember right, the other way to defeat AFM on an auto C7 was to keep the tranny in manual mode the whole time.

The EPA mandates this crap to help you save a few gallons of gas, at the cost of wearing out a starter motor.
What a deal!

I think AFM and start/stop is more driven by the car makers trying to obtain a higher amount of CAFE credits. They try every trick in the book these days to get 0.1 more MPG.
I would never buy a vehicle where those systems couldn't be disabled.

If that's their game, I think they would be better off planting some trees and adopting some penguins. That'll earn them some carbon credits right quick.

^^^ CAFE is about hitting a fleet average fuel mileage target. Emissions requirements are something else, but probably related to some degree. Another CAFE driven "trick" manufactures do is continually going to thinner oil viscosity to improve fuel mileage. Thank goodness the C8 still specs a high viscosity oil so it's protected when when beat on.
