Salesman saying he'll contact me when it's time to order
Isn't it time to put in orders now? Salesman telling me "It's too early to order now
I will call you and let you know when it's time."

Does it matter if I put my order in now or as long as it's before September? My options list doesn't have any constraints.

GM won't be accepting orders until September. What position are you in on their waiting list? 150 allocations isn't huge compared to the big 3 dealers back east that have over 1000 each.

Maybe some of the dealers want it loaded to true up the orders in the system & make it less crazy once the allocation go live. My dealer doesn’t care till it’s live in their system, I did the same with my C7 Z51 and Z06.

I'm ordering tonight after work... but yes technically it's too early for GM to accept any of the orders past "preliminary order" status.

I also was told the same from my salesman at Bob Stall. I put down my deposit on 7/25 and am not sure where I fall in their allocation order. I'm hoping that everything goes smoothly...

I had mine in at noon on 7/19 and I was ~#26. I got the same canned email (probably) as OP. I have also been in direct contact with them, but it seems they'll take the order as soon as you're ready to call them.

Try to understand no matter who post what on here, what dealership allows whomever to come in and spec their C8. No order go in until September.

Right. If the dealer can't order your car until, say, April then it makes no sense at all to rush down there right now. You'd have plenty of time to settle on options and be a lot less likely to make changes to it.

If I was on the 2nd or 3rd allocation list, no order constraints, what delivery timeframe would I be looking at? They seem like they're keeping my number in line on the allocations lists hush hush. I've already asked on email and text msg what number I am, but they dodged the question. They could have me on some 2021 list this whole time, when I could just order somewhere else.

So most info here is correct as I understand, and Gm will not take any orders until mid September, my order was submitted yesterday, and is sitting in 1100 status, which just means my dealer and I have agreed on price and options and it is just sitting in the que waiting for GM to say ok lets go. Now that could sit until mid September, or mid December, that's on GM, being I have the first allocation at the dealership the order acceptance is expected from sept to jan???
Now reasons to possibly get order in early would be price protection, last go around on c7 once demand came in things like Z51 went from like 2500 to 5000 real quick, other reason for me was as just because I am first at dealership.
reasons dealer may not want to take your order, first if your in 2 or 3rd wave then he or she maybe dealing with 50-150 people in front of you and needs to get to them first, second if they spend time with you now and then 2-3 months from now you want to make changes, then a week later you want to make more changes and so on that could get old. now reason dealer should want to get to you as soon as possible would be to turn your refundable deposit into a non refundable deposit. Now reason you should be ok with waiting a bit is your deposit is still refundable.
So if I were you I would speak to my salesman in 10-14 days after he deals with his early reserves and 1st runs, and ask him what spot you are in if you don't already know, and ask for a guesstimate of when to expect to place your order, keep in mind 2020 runs until next sept. I am sure bigger dealers are being slammed with not only legit orders, but a ton of tire kicker question asker who they have to play nice with, so I would be patience, but I would at least know my spot in the dealers allocation line if I were you by mid sept.

He is #26 on the top 50 dealers. He most likely will only get 20 first allocations, then 30 for the second and then split the rest of the year.
