I have photos that I took for record keeping given that it was how I verified and selected the options I wanted, but after Google searching and checking Youtube I was pretty surprised to see the information isn't out there. I was sure I had seen it on these forums or in a video so I didn't think much of it at the time.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it, I of course want to maintain a relationship w/the dealer and my order.

Like I said in the OP, I really have no idea about the markup from Dealer Cost to Dealer Invoice to MSRP. However, I used the spreadsheet originally created by MKenM (from which the markups in my spreadsheet were taken) to spec my car in December of 2015. I don't have any idea how they did it and made any money on the sale, but MacMulkin sold me my car for 12% off MSRP which worked out to be about $1,000 less that the "Dealer Cost" calculated by the spreadsheet. Dealer cost vs. sales price has always been a closely guarded secret invovling things like "dealer holdback" from the manufacturer, which to my mind works out to be essentially a kickback, his cost of financing his inventory, etc.

Like I said though, if you want a 2020 C8, be glad to get it at MSRP and don't agonize over how much the dealer is or isn't making on the sale. IIRC, C7's were mostly going for MSRP plus adjusted market pricing of $5,000 plus for 2014's.

Dealers need to make a profit. Companies that don’t make a profit, fail.

11k on a 70k car is ~16%. That is not a high margin. Look at margins on jewelry or clothing, or, or.... pretty much most things retail. Dealers sell most cars for less than sticker. Most dealers make their margin in parts and service.

I am am not a fan of dealer mark ups above sticker, but do not begrudge them sticker for a hot car.

You could always threaten to leak the employee prices unless they let you join in on the fun.

Of course be ready for that to backfire. Did they know you were taking pics of those documents?

wbrands, I have a question for you since the following RPO is not listed. SFE Wheel Locks. I have Q8S as my wheels and do not have a way to add them.
You listed SPZ as available, but not SFE even though they are avallable wth my wheels Q8S.
Thanks.

The sales guy was there even walked right behind me while I was snapping them, they were sheets prepared for me from the second I sat down we were going over them. I was marking the options I wanted, and referencing them through the entire order process. There's absolutely no reason that it wouldn't be okay for me to make a digital record of documents related to my order. I have had dealerships lie to me before or make mistakes, so of course I'm going to make sure that what I ordered matches 100% to what was agreed upon.

While it may list employee pricing, I am sure it will not be available for a while.

I did not list the RPO SFE Wheel Locks since Chevrolet did not publish a price for them. Since they were listed in the earlier RPO list in the order guide, I am guessing they will likely be the same price as the SPZ. So for planning purposes until you sit down with your dealer, I would just "x" the SPZ and go with that.

This is a really useful tool. Thank you for putting it together. Only glitch I found is that it does not properly discount the competition seats when combined with 3LT.

Thanks, Cheers,
Andi

Thanks for the catch. I should have recognized that the competition seats should be a cheaper upgrade to the 3LT standard GT2 seats. I modified the spreadsheet and uploaded the change.

For those of you that don’t know anything about working on the inside of a dealership, they have plenty of money to dig into.

They have holdback, and IVCs, and other perks that come directly from GM. When I was at the dealer, I want to say the holdback on a $100k Z06 was like $1,500-$1,800.

That money comes attached to every new car, to help cover the cost of advertising and paying the salesman. If they pull your car off the truck, and PDI the car, and hand you the keys, they spent none of that money in carrying costs for the car.

You also have IVCs, or cash vouchers. This is something that if a customer asks for them to toss a couple of cash vouchers into the pot to sweeten the deal, they usually get the middle finger. These are just people trying to drain the dealer for every last dime. Dealers can sometimes pickup $30k in IVCs just
from hitting a certain new car quota. Maybe selling 60 new cars, in 3 months, for instance. GM tosses out these rewards. Sometimes they benefit the customer, sometimes they’re used to undercut other dealerships.

They’re also going to rely on you buying the mop and glow package, in finance. Door edge guards, LoJack, $4,000 warranty, window tint, auto butler, clear bra, maintenance package, after that, tell you that replacing a torque tube, out of warranty, is about $8,000, and a Z06 drivetrain is about $25,000. Plus they want to hit you for a few points on financing the car. They may get 2.99% from a credit union, and hook you at 3.9% which most would see as a good rate. 1% on $100k is another grand in their pocket. They’re not hurting.

After making all the selections is there a way to change the sheet from "read only": so that I can print it?

Most likely you are in "Protected View" which I think Windows or Excel puts the file in when downloaded from the internet. When you first open it, you should see a notice right under the menu bar. It looks like a yellow bar to me, but I am red/green color blind and otherwise "color dumb", so it could be green or some other color. Anyhow it starts with a little shield with an "i" in it and says "Protected View . . .". There is a box three quarters the way across the screen that says "Enable Editing". Click that and you should be good to go.

Scott.....this is a VERY old thread and the info isn't updated or current.....and the originator of the spread sheet (Ken) actually made one last fall that is complete (and has the convertible in it).

Here is a link to the current thread:

The spreadsheet is great to use before Chevy puts the Build and Price tool online, but there is really no need for the spreadsheet now. Use the Build and Price website instead. You get a visual representation of your build (exterior and interior) along with the MSRP as you go.
