So let's figure out - why do I really want a C8 Vette?

Nobody needs one, and it's hardly the most economically viable choice to get from point A to point B, far from the most practical or most reasonable, and certainly not the most adaptable vehicle.
So why DO you want one?
Full disclosure: So do I.

Because I want something special, something I have anticipation of driving while going to the garage, something that isn't so special that it requires $100 oil filters from Italy. I want the performance attributes of a mid engine car, without the $150k price tag. I want something that isn't so special that I'm afraid to drive it anywhere or take on trips. I want something that has the rugged guts of an American built V8 and an American built transmission. I want something that celebrates what Americans can accomplish when we really try. I want a new C8 Corvette.

- Performance: 0 to 60 in 3 seconds.
- The DCT stays in 1st gear when 2nd gear clutch is engaged! (GM says it does but not how. Assume for a few some milliseconds as the 1st gear clutch disengages)
- A GM engineer says by pulling both paddles the C8 10 speed DCT goes in Neutral. So when stopped at a light he says you can rev the motor and “do burnouts!” No longer do that but will like revving the engine a bit before letting it move when I want and without the clutch slipping that many DCT’s have to deal with.
- I have fun pulling paddles in the wife’s BMW X5 SUV with Sport Suspension and 315 section width read tires (when she is not with me, or she never let me "borrow it again!") And that is with a slower “slushbox!” I’ll learn to pull levers quickly!
- Like all the other features of the C8, which like my other 5 Vettes will be my DD!
- Have only great things to say about the Tremic trans in my 3rd Vette, a C6, 2014 Z51 and current Grand Sport!

A shoulder issue making the 2-3 shift painful, and a concern it would get worse, made me break a 15+ year vow to never own another "slushbox" Corvette after selling my first, an '87. I have been very happy with my choice in my C7 and seldom miss my stick shift cars. My only issue remains the shift delay when paddle shifting. Long story short, the DCT is my main reason while hoping for fewer new component issues than the A8. Add in the blind spot and cross path detection and then the mid engine configuration is just the icing on the cake. Now the big problem - what colors?

Same reason I currently own one: best all around performance you'll find in a price bracket I can afford. I can find cars with more power, cars that have better internal quality, cars that go faster in a straight line, cars that look better, cars that are more "fun" to drive, but none that have that whole package.
And yes, mine actually will spin out when it runs out of grip laterally some day too, if anyone thinks i won't use the performance

A reasonably priced mid engine car that looks exotic w/o the high maintenance costs, good dealer support and w/ some practicality for daily use included. That's w/o factoring in the reported performance aspects of the car.

Came within a heartbeat of buying a 2013 Gallardo, but hesitated when reviewing the LARA report showing 66000 shifts in 8300 miles and only 50% clutch life remaining. Decided to wait for the C8 reveal. Got to love a mid-engine car with DCT that is faster and has a warranty. Got on the list and expect to see my car in the March to April time frame.

Because life is a meaningless existence situated on a collection of dust held together by gravity orbiting around a plain ordinary yellow star which is in itself orbiting 2 thirds from the center around a unremarkable galaxy traveling through the unimaginably vast, dark, cold, lonely emptiness of space. Throughout the unfathomably large cosmos that's consists almost entirely of hydrogen and helium gases we have found nothing to indicate we are anything more than a cosmic accident. Each beat of everyone's heart and each tick of all the clocks are just one heartbeat and one second closer to the inevitable death that is a person and then, not too long after, all of humanity. Until one day, trillions of years into the future, even the universe, at the fundamental level, down to the last proton and electron, will rip itself apart and everything that ever was or ever can be will cease to exist.
If that is really the case, well, we should at least enjoy the ride.

Well, then go ahead and buy one then. Assuming that you have the money.

My parents were introduced by a Chevy dealer. When I was very young my Mom tried out a yellow convertible Corvette Stingray for a bit, a big change from the station wagon but too big a change and she didn’t stay with it. She was uncomfortable with how far the front stuck-out beyond where she could see or judge where it was. She thought she was well back from the wall when parking in the garage only to discover it was almost hitting. (I imagine not an issue with the C8.) But it made an impression as I remember spending days just sitting in it. I’ve since owned 3. I’m a fan and, though didn’t think I’d consider a 4th, I’m impressed that they finally did the mid-engine and now wonder “How can I not?” Hmm, maybe I’ll consider a yellow convertible.
