*** The first Mid Engine Corvette C8 accident......... ***
#102
Most likely that C8 would have been crushed any way as its a pre-production development car.... certainly not the way you would want it to go down..but its better than a customer just taking delivery and getting crashed.
From the look of that hit ..right at the side radiator..... Im surprised there is no coolant trail flowing down the road.......

This view shows coolant flowing downhill across the road and from inside the double yellow lines indicating the C8 was on it's own side of the road, - it may have been due to negative camber the white SUV had "cut" the inside of the corner, clipped the nose of the C* which has "dragged" the C8 into the front of the pick-up following close behind the white SUV.
Perhaps judgement of the C8 driver should be reserved whilst the "jury" deliberates further when full facts become available.

Melting Slicks
There are a lot of roads that are pleasant drives at a moderate speed, but a real handful in traffic if someone tries to push it--whether the C8 or one of the other vehicles.
I'm sure we'll learn more, am glad to hear that apparently there aren't injuries.

Just seems tough for that white SUV to cut the corner hard enough, and be over the line enough, but sustain no front end damage. But definitely possible. The C8 could have bounced off the white SUV then hit the truck, and still be in a position to leave the coolant trails you see. But I could be completely wrong lol

As others have said, it's important to recognize that sometimes a dashcam will be your best friend, and sometimes it will be your worst enemy. Knowing you have a C8, accident investigators and insurance companies will want to know if your car had the PDR and request the video. You can say if wasn't turned on, but that better be true.

Yes, it's new to the C8 version of PDR. You can set it for dashcam to be activated at every start up. It will save to a hard drive and keep recording over previous data, functioning like the Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorders in commercial aircraft.

Evidence:
Corvette's coolant on the road in it's driving lane.
Driver's side curtains deployed in the white SUV indicating hit perpendicular to that side.
Front end of red truck hit.
Hypothesis:
1.. White SUV crossed double yellow to pass red truck.
2. White truck swerved right to avoid Corvette, but not soon enough.
3. DF of Corvette hit DR of SUV, causing rear of the white suv to rotate toward the guardrail and come to rest on said guardrail.
4. Red truck is collateral damage. Either: a) During impact, front of red truck strikes rear of white suv as it spins. Or b) after first hit from white SUV, corvette slides into oncoming lane hitting red truck at low speed.
You're welcome

Not advocating lying, but how would they know? I was under the impression that it records to a removable SD card. If the card were removed and you claimed it wasn’t installed at the time of the crash, would they be able to tell that it was? Maybe it’s recorded somewhere in a black box that the PDR was recording at the time. I don’t know. I think the “record all the time” setting is configurable so you can choose whether you want it or not.

Maybe I can score the first mid-engine chassis for a kit car McLaren!
If the Corvette had been driven by someone or driven within reason while out on a crowded public highway, if the opposing vehicle by chance had crossed (doubt it as a big vehicle going into a turn would start the turn from the outside, not be diving in for the apex), well the Corvette with its handling capability should have been able to turn tighter to the inside to avoid a hit! I bet he was driving beyond safe!
It looks like the Corvette clipped the rear tire, turning the car into opposing traffic toward the next vehicle, taking off his front end as the Corvette steered to the left to correct, and the speed and the drivers side damage took him off toward the opposite curb!
**** happens!

So how strong is the rear of the car? What if someone rear ends you in thie C8 or any mid engine car. Will the force push the engine into your back and move you forward into the steering wheel and dashboard?

Guys, I am a professional accident investigator, this is what I do for a living. I own my own investigation firm that insurance companies hire for accident reports. From the video it is clear that
